Installing D-Link DFE-650 Fast Ethernet PC Card
for Windows 98 Users

This document contains installation notes, which is not included in the
DFE-650 Fast Ethernet PC Card USER'S GUIDE or onscreen instructions,
for Windows 98 users regarding DFE-650 Fast Ethernet PC Card installation.

Follow these steps to install the DFE-650 Fast Ethernet PC Card's driver:

    1. Start your PC, then insert the DFE-650 Fast Ethernet
       PC Card into an available PC Card slot in your PC .

    2. After starting Windows 98, the DFE-650 Fast Ethernet PC Card will
       be detected automatically, then the Add New Hardware Wizard
       window appears.

    3. Insert the DFE-650 Fast Ethernet PC Card Installation diskette
       into floppy disk drive.

    4. Click the Next button in the Update Device Driver Wizard window.
       Win98 will start to search floppy drive A for network driver,
       and Windows displays the message

            "D-Link DFE-650 Fast Ethernet PC Card"

    5. Click Finish button,
       then the Win98 starts to copy the DFE-650 Fast Ethernet PC Card
       driver to the user's hard disk.

    6. Restart your computer.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
