This USB driver release is TO BE USED ONLY WITH the WebSTAR cable modems manufactured by Scientific-Atlanta, Inc.

This driver is for systems running Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) and later operating systems.  
This driver set may NOT be compatible with the original Windows 98 operating system.

Installation:
-------------
Installing the USB driver on Microsoft Windows 98SE or ME or 2000 or XP

1.  Power down your PC.
2.  Connect the active RF coaxial cable to the CABLE connector on the cable modem. 
3.  Plug USB cable into the modem and into one of the computer USB ports.
4.  Plug in the modem power adapter and make sure that the modem POWER indicator is lit.
5.  Turn the computer power ON to start Windows.
6.  When Windows prompts with "USB Composite Device" in the
    "New Hardware Found" dialog box, click the "Next" button.
7.  Select "Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)"
    from the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the
    "Next" button.
8.  Insert the CD (or floppy disk) provided with your cable modem into the CD ROM: 
    of your PC.
9.  Select "Specify a location" and type Path "CD ROM:\" in the
    "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the "Next" button.
10. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
11. Windows will prompt with "Scientific Atlanta DPR300/DPX2000/DPX100 & 200 series USB Cable Modem"
    in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.

    Note: During the installation process, if Windows displays a warning that the device
          has not passed Windows logo testing, select "continue anyway" and proceed with
          the installation.
12. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
    Windows will copy the .sys driver file from CD ROM:\
    to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory and the corresponding .INF file from CD ROM:\
    to the C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory.
13. When Windows prompts with "Scientific Atlanta DPR300/DPX2000/DPX100 & 200 series USB Cable Modem"
    in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, click the "Finish" button.
14. Remove the USB CD from your CD ROM.
15. Restart your computer to initialize the network function.


Special note for Windows98 Second Edition (SE)
If you can not connect to the Internet after you have successfully installed the USB drivers, try one of these tips.

The term "Click" is used for pressing a mouse button, typically the left button.
The term "Select" is used for positioning the mouse pointer over an item on the screen and pressing the left mouse button.

TIP 1.  If you are connecting to Internet for the first time with no previous dial-up modem setup try this:
   
  You need to setup a temporary dial-up modem connection to step through the initial Internet Explorer setup. 
   
  How to do this:
  1) On the desktop, double click on the Internet Explorer icon 
  2) You should see "Welcome to MSN Internet Access", select [next]
  3) Internet Explorer will attempt to detect a dialup modem, select [next]
  4) Click on [] "Don't detect my modem", then [next]
  5) Select "Standard modem types" and "Standard 300bps modem", then [next]
  6) Select a com_ communication port, then [next], then select [finish]
  7) Select "Lan/Manual", and (.) "Connect using my local area network (LAN)", then [next]
  8) Select [] "Automatic discovery of proxy server (recommended)", then [next]
  9) Click (no) on "Setup internet mail account now?", then [next], then [finish]
  10) Double click on the Internet Explorer icon 


TIP 2.  If you are upgrading from a dial-up modem try this:

  You need to disable the dial-up modem default setting

  How to do this:
  1) Right click (not left click) on Internet Explorer icon
  2) Select "properties" at bottom of the pull-down menu
  3) Select the tab labeled "connections"
  4) Click on (.) "Never dial a connection", then [OK]
  5) Double click on the Internet Explorer icon 


The driver SACM__.sys series conforms to the Network Driver Interface
Specification (NDIS) 5.1, and is used with Microsoft Windows XP.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
