Accton EN1203/EN1207-TX Series 1Step Program for PCI Ethernet Adapter Series ======================================================================= The 1STEP.EXE program is used for the following LAN Adapter: EtherDuo PCI (EN1203) Fast EtherPair-TX PCI (EN1207-TX) or (EN1207B-TX) This directory includes the following files: 1STEP.TXT This File 1STEP.EXE MPX Link, Hardware configuration and Software Installation 1STEP is designed to simplify the EN1203/EN1207-TX Series PCI Ethernet Adapter's installation for NetWare or other network operating systems. 1Step is also used to set up Adapter's Hardware configuration. Starting the Program ==================== From DOS, type the following indicating the directory or drive location of the 1STEP.EXE program. Then press <Enter> to display the main screen for 1Step: A:\>1STEP <Enter> 1STEP provides the following functions for the Adapter: MPX Link Hardware Configuration Software Installation Note ==== If there is more than one adapter installed inside the host PC, Open the Hardware Configuration menu. The Hardware Configuration module will prompt you to specify the card you want to configure. When system boot, PCI BIOS will automatically resolve the I/O base or IRQ confliction, then assign the available I/O base or IRQ for the adapter. MPX Link ========= You can use this function to automatically log onto the Novell NetWare network. To have 1Step copy the appropriate drivers onto your hard disk, create the necessary configuration files, initialize the network drivers, and log onto the nearest NetWare server, follow these steps: 1. Start the 1Step program. 2. Click on the <MPX Link> button. 3. Load the EN1203 or EN1207-TX Driver Diskette into the floppy drive and press OK. 1Step copies all the necessary Accton drivers and files into the NWCLIENT directory. 4. Load the NetWare Universal Client Diskette into the floppy drive and press OK. 1Step copies all the necessary NetWare drivers and configuration files into the NWCLIENT directory. 5. Let 1Step create your STARTNET.BAT file and then NET.CFG file if you don't already have a valid configuration defined for these files. 6. 1Step then loads the network drivers and attaches to the nearest server, which prompts for your password. Hardware Configuration ====================== ******************************* * 1. Adapter Configuration * ******************************* The adapter is configured using the host PCI computer's BIOS setup program. This is done by changing the computer's BIOS setting to enable bus master mode, and then setting up the IRQ. The procedure to implement this and the terminology used depend on the BIOS you are using. Some BIOS have Bus Master mode enabled for all the motherboard's PCI expansion slots; others provide you the option of turning this feature on or off. For example, if your computer uses the Phoenix BIOS, there is a "Device Select" field where you should input the slot number of the PCI slot where the adapter is installed, say "Slot 3 Device". Then for the fields that read as "Enable Device" and "Enable Master" you should change the settings to "Enable". The same is true for the adapter's IRQ setting, which is mapped to the BIOS IRQ setup of the host PCI computer. Finally, you need to set the Trigger/Routing field to select the Trigger method by which the IRQ is assigned or routed to the PCI slot. There are three types of settings to choose from: * Level/Auto - This is usually the default. Choosing this option leaves the assigned IRQ free for other use if the installed card does not use it. * Level/Forced - If you are not able get the PCI card to work properly, choose this option. This will assign the specified IRQ permanently to the card. * Edge/Auto - Some PCI boards support this option. Do not use it. Note ==== ************************************** * Conflict with Microsoft EMM386 * ************************************** The PCI adapters can only function with the EMM386.exe memory manager program version 4.49 or later. You can verify its version number by entering EMM386 at the DOS Prompt. Do not specify the "HIGHSCAN" option with the EMM386.exe statement in your config.sys file or your system will hang. If you run MEMMAKER and select Custom Setup, do not specify "Aggressively scan upper memory", or it will automatically insert the "HIGHSCAN" flag into the EMM386 command line. This parameter can not be manually removed once it's installed, doing so will cause the extended memory manager to malfunction. **************************** * 2. Navigating ACCTEST * **************************** A. Insert the Driver Diskette into your floppy driver. The ACCTEST program is in the root directory of your Driver Diskette. To run it, change to the appropriate subdirectory, type the following command and press <Enter>: A:\> ACCTEST <Enter> then select an Adapter to test. B. While the ACCTEST program is running, pressing certain function keys invoke immediate actions. These function keys include the following: <F1> Resets all counters which report real network status <F2> A toggle switch to turn the network function test ON or OFF <ESC> Terminates current test and returns to adapter- selection screen Running the ACCTEST program on a single PC allows monitoring of the adapter and the corresponding cabling system. However, this does not check the network condition. For better results, have two or more PCs on the network run the test simultaneously. The program runs several tests. The screen displays PASS or FAIL to indicate the result of each test. If a test fails, a Description dialog box automatically appears on the screen to show an error message, possible reason for failure, and possible solutions. While the test is running, real-time network status is indicated via the number of transmit (Tx Count) and receive packets (Rx Count) over a transmission period(Time). In addition, the adapter's performance in bits per second(BPS) is also calculated. Software Installation ===================== Select the appropriate software Vendor, Network Operating System, Frame Type( for Novell software ), Media Type and the directory in which the drivers are to be stored. Then press <F2> to install the network environment you have selected, or press <F3> just to update the specified drivers. For NetWare users, a batch file for easily loading the NetWare driver from DOS during start up will automatically be created(startnet.bat). Simply execute the batch file to run the driver and load NetWare automatically. Note that the Frame Type option is only displayed for Novell Software. 1. Selecting the Network OS --- Accton's PCI Ethernet Adapters provide extensive driver support. The version of 1Step that comes with this package supports installation for various drivers, including NetWare ODI and IBM/MicroSoft NDIS. If your network operating system runs under DOS, use 1Step to install the corresponding driver. For any NOS other than these, 1Step provides instructions on how to install the required drivers. refering you to the appropriate subdirectories. If the driver you need is not included in this menu, refer to the *.TXT file for a list of available drivers and instructions for installing these drivers. *.TXT files are provided in each subdirectory for last-minute changes and detailed driver installation instructions. Press <F1> to activate on-line help under the Software Installation menu. Then select the driver you need to view the corresponding *.TXT file containing driver installation instructions. 2. Selecting Frame Type(Novell only) --- Select the Frame Type required for your adapter from the choices provided. Selections include Ethernet_802.2, Ethernet_802.3, Ethernet_II, Ethernet_SNAP. The factory default frame type is Ethernet_802.3 for NetWare 3.x and Ethernet_802.2 for NetWare 4.0. 3. Selecting Media Type --- Select the Media Type required for your adapter from the choices provided. The default Media Type is Auto Detect. Identifying the Driver's Directory Location --- Enter the directory path in the box labeled Target Directory to indicate the location for the NetWare drivers. When you select Install Software from the Action Menu, 1Step searches this path to find the files it needs. 5. Menu Bar Commands --- The menu bar below the title bar contains File, Action and Help menus. Selecting any of these opens a pull-down menu containing a list of commands. Use the mouse or keyboard to make a selection. Then follow screen instructions to complete the operation. * File Menu --- displays commands for opening a DOS shell or exiting to 1Step's main screen. * Action Menu --- contains commands to install the select software or update the specified drivers. These functions can also be performed by the <F2> and <F3> function keys. * Help Menu --- provides software version and copyright information under About, while the Help command provides on-line assistance for the functions available in 1Step. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
