DOS ODI Workstation
Installing the DOS ODI driver (NetWare Workstation)
with the Intel TokenExpress(TM) Pro adapter
===================================================
Location of Driver: disk 2 \NWCLIENT\TPROODI.COM
Quick Installation
------------------
Use the Automatic Setup option in TokenSet (disk #1) to quickly and
easily install the ODI drivers. For workstations using VLM's, see
the VLM client section below.
Sample configuration files
--------------------------
AUTOEXEC.BAT
C:\NETWORK\LSL.COM
C:\NETWORK\TPROODI.COM
C:\NETWORK\ROUTE.COM <--- Optional for source routing
C:\NETWORK\IPXODI.COM
C:\NETWORK\NETX.EXE
NET.CFG
The TokenExpress PRO section is not required in your NET.CFG
unless you have multiple adapters or unless you need multiple
frame types. See the NET.CFG options below.
General Instructions
--------------------
Use the Automatic Setup option in TokenSet to quickly install the
ODI drivers. The following information provides manual
instructions if you don't use the automatic setup.
All the files necessary to connect to the NetWare server are
supplied on Intel's Driver disk. These files should be copied to
an appropriate directory on your workstation's hard disk.
1. Insert the Intel Driver diskette into drive A:.
2. Make a directory for your network files on drive C:.
For example type: MD NETWORK
3. Insert the drivers disk (disk #2) and copy the appropriate ODI
driver file, plus the additional Novell support files to the
hard disk. For example:
COPY A:\NWCLIENT\TPROODI.COM C:\NETWORK
COPY A:\NWCLIENT\LSL.COM C:\NETWORK
COPY A:\NWCLIENT\ROUTE.COM C:\NETWORK
COPY A:\NWCLIENT\IPXODI.COM C:\NETWORK
COPY A:\NWCLIENT\NETX.EXE C:\NETWORK
4. Edit your workstation's AUTOEXEC.BAT file and add the following
commands IN THE ORDER SPECIFIED below:
C:\NETWORK\LSL.COM
C:\NETWORK\TPROODI.COM
C:\NETWORK\ROUTE.COM <--- Optional for source routing
C:\NETWORK\IPXODI.COM
C:\NETWORK\NETX.EXE
NetWare 3.12 & 4.x client with VLMS
------------------------------------
To install the VLM files run Novell's INSTALL.EXE program from your
NetWare Client for DOS disk. This program will setup your
workstation as a VLM client and copy all the necessary files.
In a NetWare 4.x environment the INSTALL.EXE program is also
located in the \PUBLIC\CLIENT\DOSWIN directory on the server. This
directory is not automatically created in NetWare 3.12.
Hints and Tips
--------------
1. If you receive the error "TPROODI-DOS-27: This driver requires
LSL version 2.11 or higher", you need copy the newer versions
of the Novell support files from the disk (\NWCLIENT). Later
versions of Novell files (LSL.COM, ROUTE.COM, IPXODI.COM,
& NETX.EXE) can be downloaded from Novell on Compuserve,
filename DOSUPx.EXE (example DOSUP9.EXE). Type "go netwire" or
"go novfiles" to get to Novell's area on Compuserve.
2. NET.CFG options:
PORT The Base I/O address of the adapter. If not
specified, the driver will search for the
adapter. If there are 2 adapters in the
machine it will use the adapter at the lowest
I/O address. This PORT address should match
the I/O address in TokenSet.
INT Optional, not required. The system IRQ that
the adapter is set to. This should match the
interrupt setting in TokenSet.
FRAME The link-level frame type. Supported
values are 'TOKEN-RING' (default) and
'TOKEN-RING_SNAP'.
MAX_FRAME_SIZE The maximum frame size for the adapter.
Default is 4216 (17690 max, 632 min).
This parameter affects the resident
driver size. Any value smaller than the
default will decrease performance.
NODE ADDRESS The network address of the adapter.
Overrides the adapter Burned In Address.
When specified, this address must be
locally administered. The leading digit of
the address must be 4, 5, 6 or 7.
WATCHDOG ON/OFF to enable/disable the watchdog feature.
The default is ON.
3. Sample net.cfg for multiple frame types on one card:
LINK DRIVER TPROODI
Frame TOKEN-RING
Frame TOKEN-RING_SNAP
4. See Novell's documentation for other keywords and values in
the net.cfg. Additional information may be required for your
net.cfg, especially if you have multiple frame types or
multiple boards.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
