                    Thomas-Conrad Corporation
                     Windows NT v3.x Driver
      for TC4035, TC4045, TC4145 and TC4046 Token Ring Adapters

This README explains how to use the Microsoft Windows NT v3.x for the TC4035,
TC4045, TC4046 and TC4145 token ring adapters. The driver is named
TCTOKNT.SYS and is located (along with support files) in the directory
named NT on the driver diskette. The configuration file, named OEMSETUP.INF,
is located in the diskette's root directory.

* RUN RING TOOLS *
******************

You should run the Ring Tools diagnostic test suite on the adapter before
you attempt to install drivers. Ring Tools will indicate serious hardware
problems, such as hardware incompatibility or adapter faults. Chapter 4 of
the manual shipped with the adapter has instructions for using Ring Tools.

* KNOWN LIMITATION *

The locally-administered node ID reverses the bit structure when implemented.
Therefore, if you want to use a locally-administered node ID, you need to
enter a value for the "Local Node ID" option in reverse bit order. (Take
each byte of the node ID, convert it to binary, separate the first four and
last four bits, reverse them, then convert the number back to hexadecimal.)
An example is shown below:

* WINDOWS NT v3.x INSTALLATION *
********************************

Take the following steps:

1. Start NT, if you have not already done so. From the Main group, double-
click on the Control Panel, then double-click on "Network".

2. The "Network Settings" dialog box displays various information about the
computer and network. Click on the "Add Adapter" button in the middle
of the screen. One or more information screens may be displayed.

3. The "Add Network Adapter" dialog box displays all network adapters that
have currently been installed. Click on "<Other> Requires Disk from
Manufacturer" (usually the last menu choice) and click OK.

4. Insert the Thomas-Conrad driver diskette into a disk drive and type A:\
(or B:\) at the prompt and <Enter>.

5. There will be a short delay while NT reads the diskette. The entries
shown below will then appear. Click on the adapter you are using and
     click OK.

     Thomas-Conrad TC4046

Note A message will appear after you select an adapter if NT finds that any
---- of the drivers has been installed before. If you are installing
a driver for an additional adapter in the machine, or if you are
installing a driver for a different adapter model, you should
       respond affirmatively to the message.

6. A dialog box titled "Thomas-Conrad Token Ring Adapter" then appears.
The dialog box initially displays different options, depending on the
     adapter you selected:

     a. TC4035, TC4045 adapters

          1) IRQ Level: Initially displays the adapter's factory default.
Use the pull-down menu to make a selection.

          2) I/O Port Base Address: (Also called "Base I/O address".)
Initially displays the adapter's factory default. Use the
pull-down menu to make a selection.

          3) DMA Channel: Initially displays the adapter's factory
default. Use the pull-down menu to make a selection. To use
the adapter in non-bus-mastering mode (also called
"I/O-mapped" mode), select Disabled. (This option is not
supported on the older, long-card version of the TC4035.)

***************************************************************************
                                   CAUTION
The installation process does not read or modify
the adapter's settings (except for ring speed).
Therefore, you must select an IRQ, Base I/O address and DMA
Channel that match the settings on the adapter; otherwise, the
             adapter will fail to initialize.

***************************************************************************

          4) Network Speed: (TC4045 and TC4145 only.) Select the speed of
the network the adapter will be attached to. This overrides
the ring speed setting you selected on the adapter.

***************************************************************************
                                   CAUTION
The selection for Network Speed (also called "ring
speed") for this adapter must match the ring speed of
the network the adapter is attached to. If the adapter
is set for an incorrect ring speed, network errors will
result and the adapter will be removed from the network.
***************************************************************************

     b. TC4046 adapter

          1) Microchannel Slot: Select the slot in which you installed the
               TC4046.

           .............................................................
           . NOTE .
. The following settings must be made for the TC4046 using .
. the computer's configuration routine (using the Reference .
. Diskette): IRQ, base I/O, ring speed. .
           .............................................................

7. The "Advanced" button allows you to make the following additional
     selections:

     a. Max Packet Size: Select the maximum packet size the adapter can
          send or receive.

           .............................................................
           . NOTE .
. If your machine has more than 16MB of RAM, the packet .
. size the station will transmit or receive will always be .
. 4KB (4202 bytes), regardless of your choice for this .
. parameter. This is an NT system issue. .
           .............................................................

     b. Local Node ID: Select a locally-administered node ID for the
adapter. This is a 12-character hexadecimal number in the range
from 400000000000h to 40007FFFFFFFh. This is the range of locally-
administered node IDs permitted under IEEE guidelines.

     c. Product ID: Used by some management programs to identify the
adapter. It is a hexadecimal number up to 36 characters in length.

For more information, see the documentation provided with the
          management program.

8. After you have selected the adapter's configuration, click OK. You can
then make other selections, depending on your system requirements.
Consult the documentation provided with NT for more information.

9. Follow the prompts on your screen to complete the installation process.
You must shut down and restart your machine before these changes take
     effect.
