                    Thomas-Conrad Corporation
                     IBM LAN Server Driver
      for TC4035, TC4045, TC4046 and TC4145 Token Ring Adapters

This README explains how to use the IBM LAN Server driver for the TC4035,
TC4045, TC4046 and TC4145 token ring adapters. After uncompression, there
will be two subdirectories, shown below:

     * DOS-based workstations: The driver is named TCCTOK.DOS and
          is located in directory DOS.

     * OS/2-based workstations: The driver is named TCCTOK.OS2 and
          is located in directory OS2.

******************
* RUN RING TOOLS *
******************

You should run the Ring Tools diagnostic test suite on the adapter before
you attempt to install drivers. Ring Tools will indicate serious hardware
problems, such as hardware incompatibility or adapter faults. See Chapter
4 of the manual shipped with the adapter for detailed instructions.

************************
* COPYING EAGLEMAC.BIN *
************************

DOS driver only: Before installing the driver on a DOS-based workstation,
copy the file named EAGLEMAC.BIN from the root directory of the driver
diskette to the root directory of your boot drive or boot diskette. Or, you
can copy EAGLEMAC.BIN to either the \IBMCOM\MACS directory (which is where
the driver is located) or to the \IBMCOM directory.

This action is not necessary if you are using the OS/2 driver.

************************************
* DRIVER COMPATIBILITY AND SUPPORT *
************************************

Drivers and configuration files for IBM LAN Server are located in the DOS and
OS2 directories on the driver diskette after uncompression (see the beginning
of this README).

These drivers also support source-routing, and will automatically send and
respond to LLCPOLL packet, which are used by some management systems). No
driver parameter or other action is necessary to enable either of these
features.
*************************
* ADAPTER CONFIGURATION *
*************************

DOS-based LAN Support drivers only: The LAN Support drivers are located in
the directory LANSUP on the driver diskette. If you are using LAN Support
drivers in a DOS-based workstation, you must make sure the adapter is set as
shown below (see Chapter 3 of the manual shipped with your adapter for
information about adapter settings):

     IRQ:           2/9, 3, 6 or 7
     DMA-Base I/O:  DMA 5 and Base I/O 1A20h (Primary, also adapter defaults)
                    DMA 6 and Base I/O 2A20h (Alternate)

If you are using NDIS drivers with IBM LAN Support, you can use any available
adapter configuration. You are not restricted to the settings shown above.

*******************************************
* RUNNING THE LAN SUPPORT PROGRAM UTILITY *
*******************************************

Set up the driver in LAN Server by running the LAN Support Program
configuration utility (DXMAID.EXE), which ships with the LAN Server program.
Follow the prompts on your screen to complete the installation process.

The driver and configuration file for DOS-based systems are located in the
DOS directory after uncompression; the driver and configuration file for
OS/2-based systems are located in the OS2 directory after uncompression.

******************
* REMOTE BOOTING *
******************

To set up a DOS-based workstation to remote boot in a IBM LAN Server
environment, take the following actions:

* Install the TC9245 Remote Reset (RPL) ROM on the adapter as shown in
     Chapter 3 of the manual shipped with your adapter.

     The diskette that ships with the TC9245 has installation instructions
     that must be followed by the network administrator to enable remote
     booting.

* Use the Thomas-Conrad LAN Support drivers located in the directory named
     LANSUP on this diskette. The directory contains documentation for the
     drivers.
