V.90 Upgrade files for Micron Data/Fax X2 Modems
================================================
These files are provided from 3Com to Micron for distribution to 
Micron customers.  The Flash utilities are a Free upgrade to the Micron
Data/Fax X2 modems bundled with the Micron systems.  The Flash utilities
will only work with the Micron Data/Fax modems already supporting X2 56k
technology.

To use the W-AKITA.EXE file you must be in Windows 3.X, or Windows95.
Just run the program from a window, or the Start/Run menu in windows95.

To use the D-AKITA.EXE file you must be in Dos.  When you run the
file it will give you a list of / switches for com port, irq, etc.

/B=s  DTE Port speed.  default is 115200.  57600 is recommended.
/C=p  Port number to use.
/I=q  IRQ level to use.  Default is standard IRQ mapping.
/O=b  I/O Base address [in HEX].  Default is standard base address mapping.
/F=l  Set FIFO threshold levels for 16550 UART.  Default is 8 bytes.

Dos command line Example:

D-AKITA /B=57600 /C=3 /I=5

This will flash the modem on COM3, IRQ5 at 57600.

After you have flashed the modem it will be detected in windows95 as a
different modem, and windows95 will prompt you to provide the driver.
That driver is the MDM3COM.INF file provided with the Flash files.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
