Windows XP Mini-PCI Modem (MDM001080-xx) Installation

These instructions are provided to help you with the installation of your modem in the event you need to reinstall or update your modem driver because you have reinstalled your operating system or are experiencing technical difficulties. There are two device categories, Modem or Other devices, that can contain the modem device you need to update. The driver location will depend on whether you are updating the existing modem driver or are installing the modem driver after reinstalling your operating system. 

A.  If you are updating your existing driver the modem device will be located under the Modem Category.

B.  If you are installing the modem driver after reinstalling your operating system the modem device will be located under the Other devices Category as a "PCI Communications device".


1.  Right-Click the "My Computer" icon. 
2.  Click on "Properties". 
3.  Click on the "Device Manager" tab. 
4.  Click the + symbol next to the category where the modem device is located.
5.  Double click the modem driver/communications device. 
2.  Click the Drivers Tab. 
3.  Click Update Driver. 
4.  The Update Driver Wizard will open.
5.  Select "Search for a better . . . ", Click Next.
6.  Check the box labled "Specify a Location", [Click] Browse. 
7.  Browse to the location where you extracted the file you downloaded.
8.  Click OK, windows will locate the driver in the "WMXJBAA.INF" file.
9.  Windows will install the driver, "3COM V.90 MPCI Modem 556B", for your Mini-PCI Modem.
10. Click Next, Finish.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
