1. Caution
 This is the TWAIN Driver Software for the KV-SS Scanner Series. Agreement with the
 following terms is the condition to use this software.
 Please read carefully the following terms (1) to (5).
 You have agreed with the terms (1) to (5) when you install this software.

  (1) You have the non-exclusive right to use one copy of the software on a single
     computer used by a single user. Installation of this software on a network server
     for the purpose of distribution to one or more other computers shall not be
     granted in this agreement.

  (2) You may not copy, reproduce, or permit to be copied or reproduced, the software
     for any purpose, except to either (a) make a reasonable quantity of
     copies of the software solely for backup or archival purpose, or (b) transfer
     the software to a single hard disk, provided that you keep the original solely
     for backup or archival purpose. All other copies are in violation of this agreement
     terms.

  (3) You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software.

  (4) Before operating this software, make absolutely sure that all important data
     (stored on memory devices which is connected to computer such as floppy disks,
     hard disks, optical disks etc.) are saved by backup. We hereby declare that
     it can not be held accountable for any loss or change in any data stored on memory
     devices.

  (5) You may not change or reproduce this software. We do not take any responsibility
     for the loss which is caused by user changing or reproducing this software.
     Also we do not have any responsibility for any loss which you or the third party
     suffered by using this software.



2. Operation Environment
  The minimum system configuration is necessary to operate this TWAIN Driver Software
  for KV-SS Series.
    CPU ............ 486SX 25MHz or more.
    MEMORY ......... 8MB or more.
    OS ............. Windows(R)  3.1, Windows(R) 95, Windows(R) NT
    SCSI board ..... Adaptec SCSI host adapter AHA(TM)-154X, AHA(TM)-294X.
   (Please read the manual that comes with SCSI board about installing it to PC.)

 Some application software does not support the all pages scanning function or the
 duplex scanning function.

 Please use 16bit TWAIN Driver with 16bit application and use 32bit TWAIN Driver with 32bit
 application. If not so, it may cause scanning speed down.
 You can recognize TWAIN driver is 16bit or 32bit when you select scanners in scanner select
 dialogbox of application.
 Please ask application vendor whether the application you use is 16bit or 32bit.

 3-1  Image Type
        This is a function for setting the scanning mode to binary mode (Black
        & White) or gray scale mode (Gray scale 4 bit and Gray scale 8 bit).

 3-2  Resolution
        This is a function for setting the scanning resolution. 
	400DPI type : It is possible to set 7 kinds of resolution, 400, 360, 300, 240, 200, 150, and 100 dpi.
	300DPI type : It is possible to set 4 kinds of resolution, 300, 240, 200, and 150 dpi.
	200DPI type : It is possible to set 3 kinds of resolution, 200, 150, and 100 dpi.

 3-3  Paper size
        This is a function for setting size of the scanning area. The scanning
        area size is decided by the top of the document (lengthwise) and the center of
        document (widthwise). It is possible to set the following sizes:
                             Letter  (8.5 x 11 inch)
                             Legal   (8.5 x 14 inch)
			     Leger   ( 11 x 17 inch)
				A3   (297 x 420 mm)
                                A4   (210 x 297 mm)
                                A5   (148 x 210 mm)
                                A6   (105 x 148 mm)
				B4   (257 x 364 mm)
                                B5   (182 x 257 mm)
                                B6   (128 x 182 mm)
                        Business card( 55 x  91 mm)
                                User
    "User" is the optional size. See 3-8 Free size.

 3-4  Front side Settings
    This is a function for setting the scanning conditions of the front side
        of the page.

   3-4-1  Halftone
       This is a function for setting the tonal gradation in binary mode.
       It is possible to set the following types.
                                None (Binary)
                                Bayer Dither 64 (steps)
                                Bayer Dither 16 (steps)
                                Halftone Dot 32 (steps)
                                Halftone Dot 64 (steps)
                                Error Diffusion

   3-4-2  Brightness
           This is a function for setting the brightness from 1 to 255.
           Default value is 128.
           When the set value goes toward 1, the scanned image becomes darker.
           When the set value goes toward 255, the scanned image becomes lighter.

   3-4-3  Contrast
           This is a function for setting the contrast from 1 to 255.
           Default value is 128.
           When the set value goes toward 1, the contrast becomes lower.
           When the set value goes toward 255, the contrast becomes higher.


   3-4-4  Sub-Area
           A maximum of 3 positions can be set in the gradation sub-area which are
           different from the gradation setting set by halftone.


     3-4-4-1  Halftone
               This is a function for setting the tonal gradation
               in the sub area. It is possible to set the following positions:
                                None (Binary)
                                Bayer Dither 64 (steps)
                                Bayer Dither 16 (steps)
                                Halftone Dot 32 (steps)
                                Halftone Dot 64 (steps)
                                Error Diffusion
     3-4-4-2  Enable
              This is a function for enabling the sub area gradation.

     3-4-4-3  X, Y, Width, Length
               X , Y  : Location of sub area.
               Width  : Width of sub area.
               Length : Length of sub area.
               3 positions (Area 1-Area 3) can be set.

 3-5  Back side settings
    This is a function for setting the scanning conditions of the back
    side of a page. It is possible to set the scanning conditions the same as
    the front side. When you select simplex scanning, this function is grayed out.

 3-6  Page
        1 page    : Scan Only 1 page.
        All pages : Scan all pages which are set in the automatic document feed tray.

 3-7  Side
        Simplex : Scan for the front side only.
        Duplex  : Scan for the both sides.

 3-8  Free size
        This is a function for setting the size of the scanning area by the user option.
        It is possible to set the width from 2.2 inches(55mm) to 8.5 inches(216mm),
        the length is from 2.76 inches(70mm) to 17 inches(431mm), and to name within
        10 characters.
                Add    : Enter the set size with name.
                Delete : Delete the registered size.
                Close  : Close the Free size setting.

 3-9  More
    This is the function for setting the Image Enhancement Features.


   3-9-1 Automatic Threshold
       Brightness, contrast, white level, gamma, noise reduction and image
       emphasis are automatically set in accordance  with the scanning resolution.
       The image type is binary in this mode.

   3-9-2 White level
       This function is for setting the white level base.
                White stick : Decided by the white stick in the scanner.
                Paper       : White level is set by the color as the top portion of
                              the paper.
                Automatic   : The white level is set by the paper in binary mode,
                              and by the white stick in other modes.

   3-9-3 Gamma
           This is a function for setting the tone collect curve for Normal or
           CRT.

   3-9-4 Noise Reduction
       This function is for reducing the isolated dot noise in binary mode.
       The isolated dot noise sizes which can be selected are as follow:
                                None
                                1 X 1 dot
                                2 X 2 dot
                                3 X 3 dot
                                4 X 4 dot
                                5 X 5 dot

   3-9-5 Image Emphasis
       This function is for setting image emphasis. It is possible to set any
       of the 5 steps for the front and back sides individually.
       It is possible to set any of the 5 steps in KV-SS25,KV-SS50EX,KV-SS55EX,KV-SS850,KV-SS855      
       for the front and back sides individually.
       It is possible to set any of the 3 steps in KV-SS50/55 for the front
       and back sides individually.

   3-9-6 Paper Detect
       This is a function for detecting paper size with paper guide.
           Then Paper Size setting is ignored.

   3-9-7 Reverse Image
       This is a function for reversing the image data, from black to white
       or white to black.

   3-9-8 Mirror Image
       This is a function for reversing the image data, from right to left
       or left to right.

   3-9-9 Automatic Separation
       This is a function to automatically set the tonal gradation type.
       The text image area becomes binary mode and the photo image area becomes
       error diffusion mode.

   3-9-10 Detect Double Feed
       This is a function for detecting double feed in All pages mode.

   3-9-11 Manual Feed
       This is a function to manual feed.

    3-9-11-1 Wait till user pushes key
       This is a function for waiting to scan till user pushes ENTER key in panel of scanner.

    3-9-11-2 Manual timeout
       This is a function for setting manual timeout.

   3-9-12 Endoser
       This is a function that the text is printed on the backside of the page.

    3-9-12-1 Enable Endorser
       Enabling the endorser will cause a string to be printed on every page.

    3-9-12-2 Endorser String
       The Endorser String Field specifies the text that is printed on the paper. 
       TO PRINT AN INCREMENTING NUMBER
         The # character encountered in the string is replaced with the value specifed 
         in the "Starting Number" field. The starting number that replaces the # character
         is incremented a particular amount for every successive page. This amount is specified
         in the "Step Number" field.
       TO PRINT THE DATE
         If a '%1d' or '%2d' or '%3d' or '%4d' is encountered in the string, it is replaced with the current date.
	 The format of the date is determined by the number after the % sign.
	 %1d:YY/MM/DD	%2d:YYYY/MM/DD	%3d: MM/DD/YY.
         %4d:DD Abbreviated Month, YY. An example of %4d is 21 Dec., 1997
       TO PRINT THE TIME
	 If a '%1t' or '%2t' is encountered, it is replaced with the current time.
	 %1t: HH:MM			%2t:  HH:MM:SS

    3-9-12-3 Starting Number
 	 The # character encountered in the string is replaced with the value specifed 
         in the "Starting Number" field.

    3-9-12-4 Step Number
	 The starting number that replaces the # character is incremented a particular amount for every successive page. 
         This amount is specified in the "Step Number" field.

    3-9-12-5 Printing Offset
	 The 'Printing Offset' field's value determines the vertical offset at which the string be printed. 
	 The value's dimensions are 2.40 mm per unit.
	
 3-10  About
    This function is for displaying the version of TWAIN Driver Software
    and Scanner Firmware.


 3-11  Default
    This function is for setting all parameters to the default values.

 3-12  Cancel
    Return to the application software from TWAIN driver settings.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
