SOFTWARE INSTALLATION INFORMATION Introduction ------------ This readme file contains information on how to install the drivers which are provided as part of this driver release. Three diskettes make up the driver set. The drivers contained on diskette: 1 - Windows Drivers and the OPTiWin Windows driver utility. These Windows drivers are suitable for Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups. Available resolutions are listed below: 1024x768-16 colors 640x480-256 colors 800x600-256 colors 1024x768-256 colors 1280x1024-256 colors (2MB memory required) 1600x1200-256 colors (2MB memory required) 640x480-64K colors 800x600-64K colors 1024x768-64K colors (2MB memory required) 640x480-16M colors 800x600-16M colors (2MB memory required) NOTE: 800x600-16 color is supplied as a standard out of the box Windows Driver. 2 - Windows NT drivers. These drivers are suitable for versions 3.1 and 3.5 of Windows NT. The following resolutions are available: 800x600-16 colors 1024x768-16 colors 640x480-256 colors 800x600-256 colors 1024x768-256 colors 640x480-64K colors 800x600-64K colors (2MB memeory required) 640x480-16M colors NOTE: The 800x600-16 color Windows NT Driver is also supplied as a standard out of the box driver in Windows NT. 3 - Windows 95 Drivers. WINDOWS DRIVER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Instructions for Installing the Driver Utility ---------------------------------------------- 1. Install the standard VGA driver provided with Windows and verify your Windows environment is operating properly. 2. While still in Windows, place Diskette in drive A (or drive B) 3. Select RUN from the File pulldown menu in the Program Manager. 4. Select BROWSE and find SETUP.EXE on Drive A (or drive B). 5. Select OK to run the install program. This program will install the OPTiWin driver utility program as well as the display driver files to a directory on your hard disk. The default directory is C:\OPTIWIN. You will be prompted to accept the default directory or to enter you own. 6. An OPTiWin program item will be created in the OPTiWin program group. Changing Driver Resolutions --------------------------- 1. Double-click on the OPTiWin icon . 2. Choose the resolution, screen refresh rate, and color depth that you would like from the available selections. Be sure you have 2MB memory on board for those driver resolutions/color depths which require the extra memory. 3. You also have the option to select font size and virtual display. A small (8x16) or large (12x20) font size may be selected. More detailed font selection may be performed by clicking on the ICON FONTS icon. Any system font available in Windows may be selected and used in place of the standard 8x16 font. You may also choose a virtual 640x480 or 800x600 resolution driver. This provides a 1024x768 virtual desktop. You may pan around in the virtual desktop by moving the mouse. NOTE: The AUTO selection is the same as selecting virtual screen OFF. 4. Select OK to invoke your selections. You may also select CANCEL to return all menus to their original settings. 5. You will be asked to confirm your selections before Windows restarts. Changing Mouse Settings ----------------------- In addition to options for changing the driver resolution, color depth, etc., options are also available for changing the mouse settings. Perform the following to change your mouse settings: 1. Click on the Mouse Settings icon. The icon is located next to the Display Driver icon. 2. A hardware or software cursor may be selected. The default setting is hardware cursor. The hardware cursor requires no software overhead to manipulate, so graphics performance is improved. In addition, the cursor does not flicker. Some users may prefer using a software cursor with mouse trails for certain applications. For these cases, the software cursor option may be selected. Mouse trails can be enabled by selecting ON under the mouse trails menu. The length of the trail is selectable from one to seven cursors. That is, one to seven cursors will be replicated in a trail behind the original software cursor. Note: The 1024x768-16 color driver offers only a software cursor option. WINDOWS NT 3.1/3.5 DRIVER INSTALLATION For Windows NT 3.1 ----------------------------- 1. Install Microsoft Windows NT 3.1 by first using the standard VGA driver 2. Reboot System to ensure Windows NT 3.1 works properly 3. Double click on "Windows NT Setup" in the Main Program Group. - the main window for Windows NT Setup appears with a dialog box open. 4. Choose "Change System Settings..." from the "Options" menu. - the main window for Change System Settings appears with a dialog box open. 5. Click on the "Display" menu until the menu box appears, and choose "Other(Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)" 6. Enter the path of driver diskette(e.g. A:\WINNT31) in the Command Line box, and then click OK 7. Insert the OPTi SVGA Windows NT Drivers Disk into the floppy drive 8. Choose your preferred display resolution and vertical refresh rate, and then click OK 9. Click CLOSE to copy the driver files 10. Click NEW in the Windows NT Setup dialog box, and then click Continue 11. Close the Windows NT Setup dialog box. Click OK in the Setup Message dialog box to finish the installation. 12. Reboot the Windows NT system so the new settings can take effect For Windows NT 3.5 ------------------ 1. Install Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 by first using the standard VGA driver 2. Reboot System to ensure Windows NT 3.5 works properly 3. Double click on the "Control Panel" in the Main Program Group. - the main window for Control Panel appears with a dialog box open. 4. Double click on "Display" in the Control Panel dialog box. - the main window for Display Settings appears with a dialog box open. 5. Click "Change Display Type" under Display Settings. - the main window for Display Type appears with a dialog box open. 6. Click on "Change" in the Display Type dialog box. - the main window for Select Device appears with a dialog box open. 7. Click on "Other" in the Select Device dialog box. - the main window for Install From Disk appears with a dialog box open. 8. Enter the path of the driver diskette(e.g. A:\WINNT35) in the Command Line of the Install From Disk dialog box, and then click OK. 9. Insert the OPTi SVGA Windows NT Drivers Disk into the floppy drive 10. Choose your preferred display resolution and vertical refresh frequency, and then click "Install". - the main window for Installing Driver appears with a dialog box open. 11. Click "Yes" to confirm the change system configuration. 12. Click NEW in the Windows NT Setup dialog box, confirm the path of driver diskette, and then click Continue. 13. Click OK in the Installing Driver dialog box to complete the installation. 14. Click OK again to choose to restart Windows NT. 15. Click "Restart Now" in the Display Setting Change dialog box to reboot the system. ********** Windows95 Drivers Installation Instruntion **************** --------------------------------------------------------- To install: 1) Open the Display control panel. 2) Select the Settings page. 3) Click the "Change Display Type" button. 4) Click the "Change" button for the adapter type. 5) Click the "Have Disk" button, and enter the path to this driver directory. e.g. A:\WIN95 6) Select the display type "OPTi92C168/178" and click OK. 7) Click the "Close" button. 8) Select the desired desktop area and colors in the Settings page. 9) Click the "Close" button, and click "Yes" when prompted for restarting the computer now. To change color depths and resolutions after installation: 1) Open the Display control panel. 2) Select the Settings page. 3) Select the resolution size desired under Desktop area. 4) Select the color depths desired under Color palette. 5) Check to see if the resolution size has changed from the one selected by you in step 3. If it did, that is the maximum resolution supported for that color depth. 6) Click the "OK" button. 7) Follow instructions from Windows pop-up windows.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
