Use CONFIG.EXE to set the media type and optimization. Refer to the User's Guide or corresponding text file for more information. Windows 3.x or Windows for Workgroups (WFW) ------------------------------------------- If NetWare is the only network operating system, then the 3Com AutoLink program can be used for the driver installation. For non-NetWare environments, install the client software as specified by your network operating system vendor. Windows 3.x and WFW have internal support for Microsoft networking environments. Windows 95 ------------------------- Proceed directly to Windows 95. Do not configure the adapter from the 3Com Installation Disk #2 using CONFIG.EXE/CONFIGURATION AND DIAGNOSTICS. Windows 95 Plug and Play or the SETUP.EXE will complete the installation for Novell, Microsoft, and most other network operating systems. Refer to the User's Guide or W95NDIS3.TXT for more information. Windows NT 4.0 --------------- Refer to the file WINNT.TXT for complete NT 4.0 instructions. Windows NT 3.51 --------------- Use the configuration software provided on Installation Disk #1 to automatically set adapter parameters suitable for this PC. Proceed to Windows NT to install client software for Novell, Microsoft, and most other network operating systems. Windows 98 and Windows NT 5.0 ----------------------------- At the time of release of the 3CxEM556, these operating systems had not been released. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
