            Windows Installation Information

For the following operating systems, the preferred method of
installing the adapter is running A:\SETUP.EXE within the
operating system. Use CONFIG.EXE to set the media type and
optimization. Refer to the User's Guide or corresponding
 text file for more information.

Windows 3.x or Windows for Workgroups (WFW)
 -------------------------------------------

If NetWare is the only network operating system, then the
3Com AutoLink program can be used for the driver installation.

For non-NetWare environments, install the client software as
specified by your network operating system vendor. Windows 3.x
and WFW have internal support for Microsoft networking
 environments.

 Windows 95
 -------------------------

Proceed directly to Windows 95. Do not configure the adapter from
the 3Com Installation Disk #2 using CONFIG.EXE/CONFIGURATION AND
 DIAGNOSTICS.

Windows 95 Plug and Play or the SETUP.EXE will complete the
installation for Novell, Microsoft, and most other network
operating systems. Refer to the User's Guide or W95NDIS3.TXT
 for more information.

 Windows NT 4.0
 ---------------

Refer to the file WINNT.TXT for complete NT 4.0 instructions.

 Windows NT 3.51
 ---------------

Use the configuration software provided on Installation
Disk #1 to automatically set adapter parameters suitable
for this PC. Proceed to Windows NT to install client
software for Novell, Microsoft, and most other network
 operating systems.

Windows 98 and Windows NT 5.0
 -----------------------------

At the time of release of the 3CxEM556, these operating systems
had not been released. Please refer to 3Com's Website
(www.3Com.com) for updated information. There may also be
updated information in the latest shipping Installation Disks.
