Network Drivers Installation Notes

WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS v3.11 AND NOVELL NETWARE

This document describes how to configure the 3CxEM556 card for
use with Windows for Workgroups v3.11 and Novell NetWare.

NOTE: The following instructions assume that you have not
installed any other network adapter. If you have already
been using a network adapter on your computer, some of
these instructions may not apply or may produce different
results. In this case, please refer to your System
Administrator or MIS department for instructions.

Before installing the network driver, you should know the
 following:

The Frame type used in the network:
      - Ethernet_802.2
      - Ethernet_802.3
      - Ethernet_II
      - Ethernet_SNAP
(Please check with your Network Administrator.)

The name of your Novell file server.

For a successful installation you also need:

Novell NetWare VLM Client disks for DOS and Windows.

3CXEM556 LAN + Modem card and Installation Disk #2 or CD-ROM Disk.

NOTE: Use the following installation if you are attaching to a
Novell Netware Server only. If you are also attaching to
a Microsoft Windows Network, please skip to the
"Attaching to Novell and Windows Networks in Windows for
       Workgroups" section.

 Installation Instructions:

 1. Boot the system in DOS.
If the system starts up in Windows, close Windows and
     exit to DOS.

 2. Place the Novell VLM client disk #1 in the floppy drive and
     type:

         a:install <Enter>

This opens the NetWare Client Installation window. Use the
arrow keys to move between the fields in this window. Verify
that the information on each line is correct.

 3. Press Enter to see a list of support drivers.
At the bottom of the list, select "Other Drivers" and
     click "Enter".

 4. When prompted for a driver disk, do one of the following:
       - Put Installation Disk #2 in your floppy drive, and click
         "Enter".
       - Put the 3Com CD-ROM Disk in the drive and type
         "d:\install\disk2".
Select 3Com Megahertz Lan + 56K Modem PC Card and click "Enter".

 5. Select the appropriate frame type from the list, then click
     "Enter" to choose it.

 6. After your selection is made, click "Enter" again.

You will not need to select an "I/O Base", as the
default is appropriate for our drivers. Press
<F10> to return to the main installation screen.

 7. To install the driver, select line 6 from the main installation
     screen and click "Enter".

During the installation process, you will be prompted for
specific floppy diskettes. Follow the instructions on the screen.
When the installer finishes, click "Enter".

 8. Edit your c:\AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
To the top of the file add the line:

        C:\NWCLIENT\EMENABLE

The first two lines of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file should now read:

        C:\NWCLIENT\EMENABLE
        @CALL C:\NWCLIENT\STARTNET

 9. Save the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and exit the editor.

 10. Reboot the system.

Attaching to Novell and Windows Networks in Windows for Workgroups

After running A:\SETUP.EXE from Installation Disk 1 or the 3Com
CD-ROM Disk, or running A:\INSTALL.EXE from NW client diskettes
and choosing (ODI or ODINSUP) installation, you should be directed
 to this file.

At this point, reboot the machine.

 1. Upon rebooting, go to FILE/RUN and type Setup /Z and click OK.
This should bring up the Network Setup Dialog box.

 2. Click on the Network button.

 3. Choose "Install Microsoft Windows Network".

 4. Choose "Other" on the selection list and move down to
"Novell NetWare (Workstation Shell 4.0 and above)."

 5. Click OK.

 6. Click "Drivers".

 7. Click "Add Adapter".

 8. Click "Unlisted" or "Updated Network Adapter".

 9. Type in the directory:

         C:\MHZ\ODI

NOTE: This will only work if you have run the SETUP.EXE from
Installation Disk #1 or the CD-ROM Disk

10. Choose the 3Com Megahertz LAN + 56K Modem PC Card.

11. Click "Close" and then OK.

You will be prompted to insert your User Name, Workgroup and
Computer Name. Click OK after you have inserted this information.

12. Choose "Yes" when asked if you want to replace your networking
    files.

13. You may be prompted for several files. These are located on
either the Windows for Workgroups diskettes (usually disk #7
or disk #8), in a directory \WINDRV, or on the Novell VLM
Client Diskettes. You can try finding the files by using the
SCAN button. If you cannot find the files, make sure you have
all of the required diskettes for your network client.

14. After the system completes copying the files to your hard drive,
you will be prompted to reboot. Do this at this time.

15. If upon rebooting, you receive an error "Unable to load NWGDI.DLL",
search your hard drive for this file and copy it into the
    C:\Windows\System directory.
