NWDOSODI.TXT file 3Com Corporation 3Com Megahertz LAN + Modem PC Card (3CxEM556 PC Card family) Network Drivers Installation Notes WINDOWS 3.1X AND NOVELL NETWARE This document describes how to configure the LAN+Modem card for use with Windows version 3.1x and Novell NetWare. These procedures are also described in the LAN+Modem card User Guide. NOTE: The following instructions assume you have not installed another network adapter in the PC. If another networking adapter has already been installed, these instructions will not apply or appear accurate. Consult with your MIS department or System Administer for further instructions. Before installing the network driver, you should know the transport used in the Novell Network (typically IPX/SPX) and have access to the following software components: - Novell NetWare VLM Client disks for DOS and Windows - The Installation Disk #2 that came with your LAN+Modem card. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Boot the PC in DOS. If the PC starts up in Windows, exit Windows to return to the DOS prompt. 2. Place the Novell VLM client disk #1 in the floppy drive. Type: a:\install <Enter>. This opens the NetWare client installation screen. 3. Use the down arrow key to move from line to line. Make sure that all information is correct. When you are asked to select the driver for your network card, click "Enter" to see the list of supported adapters. At the bottom of the list, select "Other Drivers". 4. When prompted for a driver disk, put the Installation Disk #2 in your floppy drive and press Enter. The LAN+Modem card should appear as the first item on the list. Select it and click "Enter". 5. Specify the frame type by clicking "Enter" and choosing the appropriate type from the list. Click "Enter" to select your choice. (You will not need to select an I/O Base. Use the default.) 6. Press F10 to return to the main installation screen. Position the cursor on line 6 and press Enter. The installer prompts you for several diskettes and notifies you when the installation is complete. 7. Click "Enter" to exit the installation program and return to DOS. 8. Reboot the computer by clicking <CTRL><ALT><DEL>. When you go into Windows You will be able to LOGIN to the Novell Servers. The configuration manager (EMENABLE.EXE) must be added to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file or CONFIG.SYS file. Add the line: EMENABLE Specify a directory path if required. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
