Installing the Xircom Modem in a generic Windows 98 environment.

 1.  Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.

 2.  Select the Device Manager tab.

 3.  Double-click on the yellow banged PCI Card under Other Devices.  

 4.  Select the Driver Tab.  

 5.  Click on Update Driver.  

 6.  At the Update Device Driver Wizard window click next.

 7.  At the following window, select "Search for a better driver..." and click Next.

 8.  At the next window check the box next to "specify a location".  Enter the following location 
     C:\Windows\Options\Xircom-Modem182-98 and click next.

 9.  When windows finds the driver for the device, click next.

10.  Windows will then install the drivers.  Close the Modem Properties window.

11.  Click OK to close the System Properties Window.

12.  Go to Control Panel and double click on Modems.  The Location Information window will appear.  

13.  Enter your area code and dialing information and click Close.  

14.  The Modems Properties window will appear.  Make any necessary changes to the modem settings and 
     click OK to complete the setup.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
