IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

*  This driver supports PNIC-100 Fast Ethernet Adapters.

*  This driver conforms to the Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS)
    v2.0.1 defined by Microsoft/3Com. The driver has been tested with
    Microsoft LAN Manager, 3Com 3+Open, IBM LAN Server, IBM PC LAN
    Program, DEC Pathworks, and other NDIS-compatible network operating
    systems and protocol stacks.

NOTE:  You must start the Pathworks scheduler (SCHK) with the switch /N.
              If /N is not used, initialization may fail. If this happens,
              the following message:

              No NDIS Interrupt Activity.  Maybe NI_IRQ set wrong or cable
              not attached or hardware/DLL broken.

The instructions that follow describe automatic installation of the DOS
NDIS2 Driver on PATHWORKS for DOS v4.1 using the NETSETUP utility.

If you install PATHWORKS for the first time or update it using the
NETSETUP installation program, you get the following prompts and
your responses must be as shown below.

1.  Select your choices for the following:

     *  Type of configuration
     *  Destination drive (boot device)
     *  LK250 keyboard setup information

2.  Select <Ethernet> network adapter type.

3.  Select <Other NDIS> Ethernet adapter.

4.  For full DRIVE:\PATH \FILENAME for NDIS2 driver, type:

     A:\NDIS\DOS\L100.DOS

5.  For full DRIVE:\ PATH\ for the PROTOCOL.INI stub, type:

     A:\NDIS\DOS

    The files copy from the installation diskette to the appropriate
    directory.

NOTE:  If you update PATHWORKS using the NETSETUP installation
              program, you should rename or copy the CONFIG.SYS and
              PROTOCOL.INI files before starting NETSETUP.

*  Installing the DOS NDIS2 Driver Manually

The instructions that follow describe manual installation of the DOS
NDIS2 Driver on PATHWORKS for DOS v4.1.

1.  Copy the L100.DOS file from the driver installation diskette to the
     PATHWORKS directory.

     Example:

     C:\DECNET> copy A:\NDIS\DOS\L100.DOS

2.  To load the driver, add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS file:

     DEVICE=<drive>:\DECNET\L100.DOS

  3. Using a DOS editor, copy the PROTOCOL.INI stub from the driver
      installation diskette to the end of the old PROTOCOL.INI file.

      Example:

     [L100]
     DRIVERNAME=L100$

  4.  In the PROTOCOL.INI file DATALINK and IPX4MAC modules,
       change the value of the keyword BINDINGS from:

       BINDINGS = driverlabel

       to

       BINDINGS = L100

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
