Installing the Creative SB AudioPCI Sound Drivers in Windows 2000

Generic Windows 2000 environment

 1.  Right click on My Computer and select Properties from the pop-up menu.
 2.  At the System Properties window, select the Hardware tab.
 3.  Click the Device Manager button.
 4.  Double-click on the "Multimedia Audio Controller" under Other devices.
 5.  At the Multimedia Audio Controller Properties window, select the Driver tab.
 6.  Click on the Update Driver button;  the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard will appear.
     Click the Next button.
 7.  Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device" and click Next.
 8.  At the following window, select "Specify a location" (uncheck the other options) and 
     click Next.
 9.  Enter the following location c:\winnt\options\FXi-Audio512014140-2K
     and click OK.
10.  At the following window click Next.
11.  Click Finish at the next window.
12.  Close the Creative SB AudioPCI (WDM) Properties window (by clicking Close).
13.  Close the System Properties and Device Manager windows.
14.  You will then need to copy the file ev19x8.ini from the directory from step 9,
     c:\winnt\options\FXi-Audio512014140-2K, to the c:\winnt\system32 directory.  
15.  You will then need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
