Release Notes for SCO UNIX Rel 5.00 - DAC960 driver, Version 4.00 08/03/95 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAC960 Driver: - MSCSI Compliant - Multi Processor Safe, Multithreaded - Single driver for Uniprocessor and Multiprocessor Environments. - Supports upto 4 DAC960 adapters - Supports Non-Disk Devices on any Channel. SCSI Id's need to be unique across channels. - Adapters/Hard Disks can be configured using standard SCO utilities - Supports EISA, PCI and MCA DAC960 models - Support for DAC960-PCI New FirmWare Version 3.x - Supported under SCO Rel 5.00 Utilities: - dac960sh (Ver 4.00) - Front end DAC960 Shell Administrator Utility - dac960tk (Ver 4.00) - To perform low level DAC960 specific commands - rbldsh (Ver 4.00) - Utility to rebuild redundant system drives - dacmon (Ver 4.00) - Monitor utility to monitor all configured DAC960 Adapters Packaging: - The driver and utilities are packaged in SCO BTLD format Installation: Driver can be installed using either of the two methods - Fresh SCO UNIX installation. driver can be linked during Boot Time. At the Boot: prompt, type in ahslink NOTE: The following messages appear on the screen Driver <mdac> apparently should be replaced with the new driver "mdac". Replacing a driver may result in a kernel which does not work. Please enter 'r' if you wish to try replacement 'a' if you want to use character major 6 [default] which character major number (0-100) to use ('?' to list), or 'q' to quit: Enter "r" here Naming convention: - Driver package name: mdac - Driver name : mdac - Adapter Nodes name : /dev/rdaN00, where N is adapter number - Hard Disk/Tape/Cd-ROM nodes: SCO standard naming. How to Configure: - All MSCSI compliant drivers need to follow strict SCO UNIX procedures to configure Adapters and SCSI devices. The driver would recognise only those adapters/devices configured using MSCSI support utilities. Driver would recognize configured adapters and devices only. - Configuring Hard Disks: Use 'mkdev hd' to configure Hard Disks. system drives should be configured as follows. system drives 0-7 - Adapter X, SCSI ID 0-7, LUN 1 system drives 8-15 - Adapter X, SCSI ID 0-7, LUN 2 (Fw Ver >= 3.x) system drives 16-23 - Adapter X, SCSI ID 0-7, LUN 3 (Fw Ver >= 3.x) system drives 24-31 - Adapter X, SCSI ID 0-7, LUN 4 (Fw Ver >= 3.x) - Configuring Tape: Use 'mkdev tape' to configure Tape devices. Configure Tape at SCSI Id 'X' and LUN 0. Note : Do not configure Tape Device at SCSI ID 0 - Configuring CD-Rom: Use 'mkdev cdrom' to configure Tape devices. Configure CD-Rom at SCSI Id 'X' and LUN 0. Note : Do not configure CD-ROM Device at SCSI ID 0 - Default Configuration: When a Fresh SCO unix installation is done using the BTLD package, the following are automatically configured to facilitate SCO UNIX installation. Hard Disk - SCSI ID 0 (System Drive 0) - Host Adapter 0 (first DAC960 Adapter) - LUN 1 Tape - SCSI ID 2 (SCO Unix mandates this) - Host Adapter 0 (first DAC960 Adapter) - LUN 0 Driver Scanning: - The driver scans for DAC960 adapters in the following order 1). DAC960 PCI adapters with FirmWare version < 3.x 2). DAC960 PCI adapters with FirmWare version >= 3.x 3). DAC960 EISA adapters 4). DAC960 MCA adapters Note that it is very important to remember this order, while configuring adapters (hardware, software), in order to ensure consistent mapping across driver/utils/hardware. Errors during Installation: -------------------------- During fresh installation of SCO Unix Rel 5.00 using DAC960 driver BTLD diskette "mdac", the following error message appears on the screen Error Message: Extracting BTLD distribution for mdac ... /etc/uadmin getdev b mdac: (No such device 19) Status: This doesn't seem to have any effect on installation. The system would work fine once the installation is complete. This issue is being invsetigated.Download Driver Pack
