Solaris 10 Update 4 Installation instructions for Intel Tigerton/Caneland platforms 
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------


The Intel Tigerton processor based platforms (code-named Caneland) have the LSI MegaSasRAID 1078 controller on-board that connects to the system SAS drives. Since Solaris 10 Update 4 does not provide the drivers for this controller in its distibution DVD, an install time update (ITU) CD or DVD that includes it needs to be used during installation.

1) Installation Requirements:
   -------------------------
   
   a) Intel Tigerton based platform or (code-named) Caneland platform.

   b) Solaris 10 Update 4 x64 Installation DVD
      (Also available for download at: http://www.sun.com/solaris/)

   c) Solaris 10 Installation-Time-Update (ITU) CD/DVD for LSI MegaSasRAID 1078 Driver
            
   d) OPTIONAL - A USB Sony DVD/CD Read-Write Drive - Model # DRX-890U
      
2) Solaris 10 LSI 1078 driver  ITU (Installation-Time-Update) CD/DVD Creation:
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
      

   a) Use the latest .iso image file and burn into a CD or DVD. The newly
      created CD/DVD will be your ITU CD/DVD 
      
      CAVEAT:
      We recommend that you use a Solaris system to burn the CD or DVD. Using
      other Operating Systems may change the case of the directory names in the
      contents of the ITU CD/DVD and therefore result in some issues while 
      installing the ITU.

      NOTE: You can use the ITU CD created above for both Solaris Express 
      install and Solaris 10 Update 4 install.  


3) BIOS Setup:
   ----------
  
  a) After the Intel Tigerton Caneland system is powered up,enter the BIOS menu by
     pressing F2. In the BIOS Aptio Setup Utility menu, select the option "Advanced".
     Scroll down to select "Mass Storage configuration". Set the "SAS Option ROM" to
     "Enable" and set "SATA" to "IDE". 

     Pressing 'Esc' key returns you to the main menu. 

  b) From the main menu, select "Boot Options" and check the order of boot devices. 
     It should be set to the following sequence:
     1) PATA:Optiarc DVD-ROM DDU810A drive
     2) (Bus 04 Dev00)PCI RAID Adapter
       
  c) Ensure that the platform is accessible via the serial port. At the main menu,
     select the option "Advanced". Scroll down to "Serial Port Configuration".
     Set "Serial Port A Enable" to "Enabled" and set "Serial Port B Enable" to 
     "Enabled".
  
   When the BIOS setup is completed, you can start the installation of Solaris
   following the instructions below.

4) Installation Procedure:
   ----------------------
  
   Power on the Intel Tigerton Caneland system and insert the Solaris 10 Update 4 DVD 
   into the system DVD drive. Select the "Solaris" install at grub boot menu and then,
   immediately after the message "Configuring devices" comes on screen, press "5" to
   select the "Apply Updates" menu option.
   Now eject the Solaris installation DVD and insert the Install-Time-Update CD/DVD
   Press 'c' at the displayed menu to start installing the LSI 1078 driver updates
   onto the system. At the end of the update, press "e" and re-insert the Solaris 10
   installation CD/DVD to continue the installation. 


   Optional:
   You may optionally connect a USB Sony DVD/CD RW Model # DRX-890U to the USB port on
   the Intel system and after you select the "Apply Updates" option in the
   instructions above, you can insert the Install-Time-Update CD/DVD into the drive
   in the system and press "c" to install the LSI 1078 driver. Follow the system
   prompt to re-insert the installation CD/DVD and continue the installation.   


5) Boot-time
   ----------
  After the install completes, the system will reboot.
  At grub boot, do not press <Enter> or wait for 60 secs for "Solaris" to boot. Edit
  the boot line by pressing "e" and add the following to the end of the boot line :
  -B console=ttyb  

  You should be able to connect to the system via terminal ttyb and through the

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
