the Driver and Utilities in your computer.

1. Contents of Software

Panasonic KX-P7100 Software has the following components.


1.1 Driver & Utilities

(1) Printer Driver & Utilities(Printer Console, Status Display)
    You can install the KX-P7100 Printer Driver and Utilities
    to run the Setup program.
(2) Uninstall printer driver and utility
    You can uninstall the printer driver and utility.

1.2 Setup Guide (Setup.pdf)

This manual includes Setup Guide.
It provides detailed information on setting up the printer, printing a document,troubleshooting, and specification, etc.

First read this guide for basic setup procedures for the Panasonic KX-P7100
Monochrome Laser Printer and necessary precautions for safety and use.
Be sure to read "For Your Safety" on the back of this guide before setting up
the printer and keep this document in a safe place for future reference.


For other detailed information, refer to Operating Instructions installed on 
your computer.  It is automatically installed on your computer when installing 
the KX-P7100 software.
If the Acrobat Reader application has not been installed in your computer, you
are required to install it so that you can read the documentation.


1.3 Operating Instructions (Contents.pdf)

The KX-P7100 Operating Instructions consist of the following 3 files.
	(1) Contents.pdf
	(2) Mainte.pdf
	(3) Print.pdf

These files can be opened by clicking on their names below.

(1)Contents of Manual(Contents.pdf)
We are sure it will meet your printing needs and give you 
many years of productive and efficient use.

(2)Care and Maintenance (Mainte.pdf)
This section contains information on cleaning the printer,
replacing supplies, clearing jams, troubleshooting, error
messages and repacking and specifications of the printer,
media to be used and interface.

(3)Settings and Printing (Print.pdf)
This section contains information on printer panel, printer
driver and printing a document.

2. System Requirements

To operate the KX-P7100 system effectively, see the following:


2.1 PC

- CPU:
  Pentium 133 MHz or greater
- Operating System:

  Windows(R) 95, Windows(R) 98, Windows(R) Me, Windows NT(R) 4.0, Windows(R) 2000 or Windows(R) XP
- RAM:
  16 MB or more (More than 32 MB is recommended.)
- Free disk space:
  100 MB or more
- Virtual memory:
  16 MB or more (More than 32 MB is recommended.)

2.2 Interface

  Based on the IEEE P1284-B standard
  (An ECP compatible parallel port is recommended for Windows 95 and Windows 98.
  To turn on the ECP mode, use the computer's BIOS setup. Refer to the computer's
  manual for details.)

3.  Installing the KX-P7100 Software
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

When installing the KX-P7100 software, the following can be installed.

- KX-P7100 printer driver
- KX-P7100 Operating Instructions and this manual

Note:
*To open and read the KX-P7100 Operating Instructions manual on your screen,
Acrobat Reader program is needed.

This Setup Guide describes the instructions to install the software when using
the KX-P7100 as the local printer.


3.1 When Using the parallel interface cable:
For Windows 95/Windows 98/Windows Me/Windows NT 4.0/Windows 2000/Windows XP

3.1.1 For Windows 95/Windows 98/Windows Me
1  Start Windows 95/Windows 98/Windows Me.
2  Quit all applications.
3  Double click C:\P7100\Win9x\Setup.exe. 
4  Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

3.1.2 For Windows NT 4.0
1  Start Windows NT 4.0.
2  Quit all applications.
3  Double click C:\P7100\WinNT\Setup.exe. 
4  Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

3.1.3 For Windows 2000
1  Start Windows 2000.
2  Quit all applications.
3  Double click C:\P7100\Win2000\Setup.exe. 
4  Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

3.1.4 For Windows XP
1  Turn the printer off.
2  Connect the computer to the printer with a parallel cable
3  Start Windows XP.(quit all applications)
4  Unistall printer driver.(Click "Start"->Programs->Panasonic->
   Panasonic KX-P7100->Unistall printer driver)
5  Restart the PC.
6  Turn the printer on.
   (The wizard windows appears.)
7  Click on the "Install from a list or specific location", then click "Next>".
8  Click on the "Include this location in the search:".
9  Click "Browse" and select folder [C:\P7100\WinXP], then click "OK".
10 Click "Next>".
11 Click "Continue Anyway", then click "Finish"
12 Follow the instruction on the screen to complete the installation.

3.2 When Using the USB interface cable:
For Windows 98/Windows Me/Windows 2000/Windows XP

3.2.1 For Windows 98
1  Start Windows 98.
2  Quit all applications.
3  Unistall printer driver.(Click "Start"->Programs->Panasonic->
   Panasonic KX-P7100->Unistall printer driver)
4  Restart the PC.
5  Turn the printer on.
   (The wizard windows appears.)
6  Click "Next>".
7  Click on the "Search for the best driver for your device" check button 
   and click "Next>".
8  Click on the "Specify a location" check box.
9  Click "Browse" and select "Win98usb" folder [C:\P7100\Win9x\Win98usb].
10 Click "OK".
11 Click "Next>".
12 Click "Next>", then click "Finish"
13 Follow the instruction on the screen to complete the installation.

3.2.2 For Windows Me
1  Start Windows Me.
2  Quit all applications.
3  Unistall printer driver.(Click "Start"->Programs->Panasonic->
   Panasonic KX-P7100->Unistall printer driver)
4  Restart the PC.
5  Turn the printer on.
   (The wizard windows appears.)
6  Click "Next>".
7  Click on the "Specify the location of the driver"and click "Next>".
8  Click on the "Specify a location" check box.
9  Click "Browse" and select "Win98usb" folder [C:\P7100\Win9x\Win98usb].
10 Click "OK".
11 Click "Next>".
12 Click "Next>", then click "Finish"
13 Follow the instruction on the screen to complete the installation.

3.2.3 For Windows 2000
1  Start Windows 2000.
2  Quit all applications.
3  Unistall printer driver.(Click "Start"->Programs->Panasonic->
   Panasonic KX-P7100->Unistall printer driver)
4  Restart the PC.
5  Turn the printer on.
   (The wizard windows appears.)
6  Click "Next>".
7  Click on the "Spearch for a suitable driver for my device" check button
   and click "Next>".
8  Click on the "Specify a location" check box.
9  Click "Browse" and select "USBSETUP" folder [C:\P7100\Win2000\USBSETUP\P7100USB.INF].
10 Click "OK".
11 Click "Next>".
12 Click "Next>", then click "Finish"
13 Follow the instruction on the screen to complete the installation.

3.2.4 For Windows XP
1  Turn the printer off.
2  Connect the computer to the printer with USB cable
3  Start Windows XP.(quit all applications)
4  Unistall printer driver.(Click "Start"->Programs->Panasonic->
   Panasonic KX-P7100->Unistall printer driver)
5  Restart the PC.
6  Turn the printer on.
   (The wizard windows appears.)
7  Click on the "Install from a list or specific location", then click "Next>".
8  Click on the "Include this location in the search:".
9  Click "Browse" and select "USBSETUP"folder [C:\P7100\WinXP\USBSETUP\P7100USB.INF],
   then click "OK".
10 Click "Next>".
11 Click "Continue Anyway", then click "Finish"
12 Follow the instruction on the screen to complete the installation.

4. Reading a Manual
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setup Guide, and Operating Instructions are automatically
installed on your computer when installing the KX-P7100 software.

For detailed information on maintenance, troubleshooting, etc., refer to 
the Operating Instructions.

4.1 Opening a Manual's File

To see the manual,
1  Click Start , move the pointer to Programs, Panasonic and Panasonic 
   KX-P7100, then click Operating Instructions or Setup and Reference
   Guide.
   The cover page of the manual is displayed.
2  To see the Operating Instructions, read the explanation and click the
   desired file name to open it.
   The first page of the file will be displayed on your computer screen.
   Refer to the Help of the Acrobat Reader for details on its operation.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
