Win2000.txt Driver File Contents (Ark_Logic_2000MT.zip)

10 July, 2000. TJ <tj@tjworld.com>

After searching everywhere across the Internet and realising
there are no Windows 2000 drivers for the ARK Logic 2000MT/PV/MI
chipset I decided to create my own.

Actually I just added one line to the standard ARK.INF configuration
file that comes with the Windows NT ARK driver package ARKNT40.ZIP
version 1.09 dated 4th November 1997.
(from http://www.arklogic.com/support.html)

I'm using an original Ark Logic 2000MT video adapter. From being stuck
with Windows 2000 standard VGA 800x600 in 16 colours, I'm now using
1024x768 in 65,536 colours.

So far it hasn't blipped out on me and if it does, I can live with it.

To install the driver, first extract the 5 files in this ZIP to your system,
maybe into "My Documents".

Now run the Add New Hardware Wizard, and select the VGA Compatible Display Adapter
from the list of detected devices. Searcg for best driver, then select location
and browse to "My Documents".

The Wizard will search the regular Windows 2000 INF location, then your selected
location.
With luck at the end of this the Wizard will tell you it has found a better driver
(the Ark driver) and ask you if you want to install it. Follow the rest of the
process through to completion and you should have a working driver.

Now all you need to do is right-click the desktop, select Properties,
click the settings tab, switch to a higher colour depth, test and accept,
then switch to a higher resolution, test and accept, then click the Advanced
button, Adapter tab, List All Modes, and choose a mode that has the highest
refresh rate that your MONITOR can support. In my case I chose
"1024 x 768, High Color (16 bit), 75 Hertz"

That's it - happy surfing. I'd appreciate an email telling me how you've got on,
maybe you can help me in return in your own specialization.
