- IBM-compatible PC, 333 MHz Processor, (64MB RAM or better.)
- Adaptec USB 2.0 PCI Host Bus Adapter (HBA) or Adaptec CardBus.
Note: You must have an Adaptec USB 2.0 PCI Host Bus Adapter (HBA)
or Adaptec USB CardBus product in your system to use the
Adaptec USB 2.0 drivers.

- Please refer to the User's Guide and the Adaptec Support Knowledgebase
(ASK) at <ask.adaptec.com/> for general troubleshooting tips.
- Newer versions of the drivers and software are posted on the Adaptec
Web site as they are developed. For maximum performance and
functionality, please update to the latest drivers and software as
they become available. Go to <www.adaptec.com/support> for
more information.
- When using Windows XP, you may encounter problems when upgrading
from the Microsoft driver to the Adaptec driver. To avoid:
- Disable the Microsoft driver using the Device Manager.
- Choose "Install from a specific location".
- Choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install".
- Choose "Have Disk" and point to the CD or folder containing the Adaptec
driver.
Installation Procedure
======================
Please refer to the Driver Installation Guides which were
downloaded with the drivers or are available as a seperate
download for instructions on installing drivers. Failure
to do so could result in improper installation of the driver.
Please remove all attached USB devices from the USB 2.0 PCI Host
Bus Adapter (HBA) or Adaptec CardBus before installing or updating
the USB 2.0 drivers.
Driver Limitations:
===================
- Some USB 2.0 devices and features are not supported in this driver
release - USB Remote Wake Up is not supported.
- Some devices which implement USB 2.0 interrupts may not work
properly.
- Some USB 1.1 composite devices may not work properly if connected to
a USB 2.0 hub. (For example: MIDI-interface, headphones/microphone
system, some keyboards, and webcams with microphones).
- This driver does not currently support multiprocessor systems
under Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Known Issues
============
- Do not attempt to put the system into standby or hibernation mode
during data transfer (I/O activity) to a USB device.
- Do not add or remove USB devices while the system is in standby or
hibernation mode.
- The first time a USB device is plugged into a USB port, the
system may prompt you to locate the driver for that USB
device and request a reboot
- USB devices that do not work well when attached to USB 1.1 hubs
will also not work well when attached to an Adaptec USB 2.0 hub.
- Please check your device manufacturer's Web site for the latest
updates to their software.
- The Buslink USB 1.1 hard disk drive may not work properly when connected
to an Adaptec USB 2.0 controller or hub. To work around this issue,
connect the Buslink USB 1.1 hard disk drive directly into the system. Please
check the manufacture's Web site for software updates.
- The iBot2 USB 2.0 camera may not work correctly on some systems
when plugged into an Adaptec USB 2.0 card or hub. To work around
this issue, plug the camera into a USB 1.1 port. Please check the
manufacture's Web site for software updates.
Troubleshooting Info:
=====================
- If you attempt to put the system into standby or hibernation mode
during data transfer (I/O activity) to a USB device, you may
experience problems with your system. Please do not attempt to
put the system into standby or hibernation during I/O activity
with a USB device.
- When using Windows Me, the Device Manager may have a green
question mark next to a USB 2.0 storage device which is
connected to an Adaptec USB 2.0 card. There is no problem with the
device. It will continue to function properly.
- When using Windows 98SE, the Adaptec USB 2.0 driver may prevent
some systems from entering into standby mode.
- The system may report that a USB 2.0 CD-RW connected to an
Adaptec AUA-2000LP card does not contain any media when
resuming from a suspend. To work around this issue, use the
"Unplug or eject hardware" icon in the system tray to remove
the USB 2.0 CD-RW. Unplug the USB 2.0 CD-RW from the card, and
then plug it back in.
- If you unplug/re-plug a device too quickly, the system may
not recognize the USB device. To work around this issue, allow
at least 3 seconds between a unplug and re-plug.
- Remove only one device at a time usig the "Unplug or eject" icon on
your system tray. If you attempt to remove more than one device at
a time, physically removing one USB device may cause the other
devices to re-enumerate.
- When using Windows 2000, with certain CD-RW applications
running, the system may stall if a USB CD-RW drive is
removed using the "Unplug or eject hardware" icon in the
system tray.
- Before enabling or disabling the Adaptec Enhanced Host Controller
in the Device Manager, stop all USB devices connected to the Adaptec
host bus adapter or CardBus and remove the USB devices from the
system.
- When you are using an HP PSC-750 printer/scanner/copier or a Tascam
USB-428 audio/MIDI interface, Adaptec recommends that you connect the
device directly to your USB card or built-in USB port rather than through
a hub.
- If you are using an Adaptec AUA-1420 CardBus card and a Xircom
Ethernet CardBus card, install the Xircom CardBus card first, let Windows
boot up, then install the AUA-1420 CardBus card. Your computer will not
boot up if both cards are installed at startup, and your system will hang
or reboot unexpectedly if you install the AUA-1420 card first.
- Before removing an Adaptec AUA-1420 CardBus card, use the
"Unplug or eject" icon (on the system tray) to stop and remove
attached USB devices. Then use the "Unplug or eject" icon to stop
the "NEC USB Open Host Controller". It is then safe to eject the
Adaptec AUA-1420 from the CardBus slot.
- If you have a USB 2.0 isochronous device connected to a USB 2.0
PCI adapter or CardBus card, your device may not function properly
when entering standby, in-active standy, or hibernate mode. To work
around this issue, unplug your device, then re-plug it into the USB
port.
- When using a USB 2.0 CardBus card in a PC laptop system for the
first time, install the card before booting up so that the Adaptec USB 2.0
drivers load properly.
- Some USB 1.1 audio devices, may experience problems when they
are connected to the system through a USB 2.0 hub. To work around
this issue, unplug the device and plug it back in to a different
hub port or plug the device directly into the USB controller.
- When using Windows Me on a PC laptop system, the USB2.0 CardBus card
may not show up in the Windows Device Manager after waking up from a
hibernate mode. To work around this issue, unplug the CardBus card
and then plug it back in. The card and all attached devices will
show up in the Device Manager.
- When using Windows Me on a Sony Vaio J200 desktop system, there may
be problems using an Adaptec USB 2.0 hub. Adaptec recommends that
you do not connect a USB 2.0 hub to this system configuration and that
you connect all USB devices directly to the USB controller card.
- Unplugging a webcam while streaming video may cause the system to
behave incorrectly. To work around this issue, always stop streaming and
close any preview or capture application before unplugging the webcam.
- When connected to an Adaptec USB 2.0 hub, some USB 1.1 keyboards
and mice when may not work correctly if a USB camera is present on the
hub and is streaming video. To work around this issue, connect the mouse
or keyboard directly to the USB card or system.
- Some Iomega USB 1.1 zip drives may prevent the system from going into
or waking up from suspend mode if the zip drive is connected to an Adaptec
USB 2.0 controller. To work around this issue, stop the drive and unplug it
before letting the system go into suspend. Please check the manufacturer's
Web site for their latest software updates.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
