***************************************************************
GENERAL
***************************************************************
1. You are Using an Omnibook 800CS Computer

On an Omnibook 800CS laptop, you must insert the modem before
running Setup.

---------------------------------------------------------------
2. You Are Using an Omnibook 600C Computer

The HP Omnibook 600C has a proprietary PCMCIA controller that
will not support this modem.

---------------------------------------------------------------
3. Loopback Tests

The following loopback AT commands are not supported: Local
Analog Loopback (AT&T8), Remote Analog Loopback (AT&T1, Local
Digital Loopback (AT&T6), and Remote Digital Loopback (AT&T3).

---------------------------------------------------------------
4. If You are Using Quicken Version 6

The default maximum baud rate of a modem in Quicken 6 is
19,200bps. Follow the instructions in the Quicken 6 manual to
increase this baud rate for your Megahertz modem.

---------------------------------------------------------------
5. Receiving Faxes in ProComm Plus

The auto-answer detect feature of ProComm Plus does not work
with your XJ5560 or CC5560 modem. Turn auto-answer detect
off.
---------------------------------------------------------------
6. Using Automatic Credit Card Dialing

When you enter the dial string for a credit card call, place an
ampersand (&) at the end of the phone number, before the
credit card number.

---------------------------------------------------------------
7. If You Don't Use Error Correction or Data Compression

To enhance performance when not using error correction or data
compression, set S24=64.

---------------------------------------------------------------
8. Installing Your Modem in a DOS-only Environment

Use file ENABLE.EXE, which can be run from the DOS prompt or
from your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file. ENABLE.EXE will
use the default values specified in the ENABLE.INI file, but
you may change any or all of the default settings when you run
the DOS Enabler by using the following switches:

Switch Description
/cn Indicates the COM port that you want the modem to
use. You can use 1 through 4, or you can remove
the switch to have the Enabler choose the first
            available port.

/dnnnn Indicates a delay in milliseconds that the driver
waits to initialize the modem. It is needed only
for machines with a Ricoh PCMCIA controller, such
as the IBM 360 and the IBM 755. The value of nnnn
            is usually 500.

/h or /? Displays a help screen.

/imn Indicates the modem interrupt (IRQ) you will use,
where n indicates the interrupt level. The value
            of n can be 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, or 15.
3 and 5 are good choices. If you are using COM1 or
COM3 for your modem, the default IRQ is 4. If you
are using COM2 or COM4, the default IRQ is 3. Your
U.S. Robotics modem can use any IRQ that is
available. The configuration of your computer
            determines which IRQs are available.

/pnnnn Indicates the starting memory address for the modem.
Values of nnnn can be C000h to EF00h in 100h
increments. The default is D000h. You must
exclude the same memory range on the memory manager
line in the CONFIG.SYS file. C800h-C8FFh or
            D000h-D0FFh are good choices.

/sn Indicates the PC Card slot the modem is in, where n
can indicate slot A through H. The default is A
(there is no standard about which slot is A and
which is B when two slots exist. You may need to
experiment to find out). If no slot is specified,
the Enabler will cycle through all the PC Card slots.

/un Disables the slot the modem is in, where n can
indicate slot A through H. It removes Enabler
information from the modem’s memory and turns off
the power to the modem. If no slot is specified,
            all slots are disabled.

/v Displays verbose status messages

For example, to indicate that you want to use COM4 and Slot B, you
would enter the following statement at the DOS prompt:

		ENABLE /C4 /SB

To add the Enabler to your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT file, follow
these steps:

    1.	At the DOS prompt (C:>), enter md \mhz to create an MHZ
        directory on your hard drive.

    2.	Insert the U.S. Robotics Installation Diskette into the
        floppy drive.

    3.	At the DOS prompt (C:>), type copy a:\enable.* c:\mhz
and press Enter. This copies ENABLE.EXE and ENABLE.INI
        to the c:\mhz directory.

    4.	Use a text editor such as EDIT or NOTEPAD to add the
following two lines to the END of your CONFIG.SYS file:

 	[common]
	DEVICE=C:\MHZ\ENABLE.EXE

[common] is needed only if you're using DOS 6.0 or later
(type ver at the DOS prompt to see what version of DOS you
        are running).

This allows the Enabler to run every time you reboot your
        computer.

    5.	Using a text editor such as EDIT, modify the Memory= line in
file ENABLE.INI that you copied to your hard drive.

Memory specifies the memory location to be used to enable the
modem. If you're using Card and Socket Services, specify the
same address that it uses. If you're using ENABLE.EXE,
exclude the memory range you will use with your memory manager.
You should exclude a 4K block of memory.

For example, if you were using memory location D000h, you
could exclude the 4K block for EMM386 by specifying the
value of X=D000-D0FF to the appropriate line in your
        CONFIG.SYS file. For example:

                 DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D000-D0FF

The modem is now installed in DOS. Now connect the cables and set up
your communications software to use your modem.

---------------------------------------------------------------
9. You Can't Get a 33,600bps Connection

Your modem connect speed of 33,600bps is defaulted OFF. To
enable a 33,600bps connection, set S33=0.

---------------------------------------------------------------
10. Adjusting the Dialtone Volume

Your modem is designed to support only one dialtone volume. It
cannot be changed.

---------------------------------------------------------------
11. You Can't Make a Connection at x2 Speeds

This is because of the way your phone company has routed the
call.

***************************************************************
CELLULAR
***************************************************************
12. The Modem Won't Work

Your cellular phone battery may be low. Insert a fully powered
battery.

---------------------------------------------------------------
13. You Can't Hear Modem Noises During Dialing and
     Connection

Your XJ5560 or CC5560 modem is designed not to produce audio
until a connection is being negotiated.

---------------------------------------------------------------
14. The Cellular Phone Keeps Turning Off

The modem is designed to turn off the cellular phone whenever
the modem power is turned off.

---------------------------------------------------------------
15. Dial-up Networking Won't Work With Cellular

Windows 95 OSR2 has a feature in the Control Panel under the
Power icon (PC-Card Modems tab) called "Turn off PC-Card
modems when not in use" that must be disabled during dial-up
networking. This should allow you to hear the beep-up tones
when the modem is inserted and active, and to use dial-up
networking.

***************************************************************
RAPIDCOMM VOICE
***************************************************************
16. You Get the Message "Wrong Token Error 1001"

This error will occur when a greeting or auxiliary message is
recorded when calling in remotely to RapidComm Voice without
pressing pound (#) following the recording.

---------------------------------------------------------------
17. Monitor Function Doesn't Work

This is as designed.

---------------------------------------------------------------
18. Auto Detect Won't Work

Auto Detect doesn't work when set to Voice/Data/Fax when
receiving a fax from some modems. The default setting for
RapidComm Voice Auto Detect that is shipped with your modem
is set to Data/Fax, so Auto Detect should work.
