Installation Instructions
=========================
This updated driver can be applied using the normal OS installation options.
Extract package contents to a user specified location such as = a:\
1. Extract the .img file to create a "DUD" on a floppy diskette.
2. Boot to CD-ROM or DVD-ROM with OS Disk 1.
3. When first screen come up press F5 key for SLES 10 or F6 key for SLES 9 to load a driver, then select installation menu option
4. Insert DUD when it is prompted
5. Proceed with installation As SLES is not updating the Driver and not creating initrd image by itself. So we need to do that manually using script file. Follow following steps carefully to do that.
6. When the Basic installation finishes the system will prepare for initial reboot. This is after installing selected packages from CD¡¯s, Update Configuration, Copy file to installed system and after installing the boot manager. Before rebooting the system a small window will pop up in which Seconds before rebooting your system displayed. Press STOP button to prevent rebooting the system.
7. Press Ctrl+Alt+F2 and go to directory /update/000/install
               #cd /update/000/install
8. Run script update.post2
               #./update.post2
9. Press Ctrl+Alt+F7 and select Ok in the Small window that show Now rebooting your system
10 System automatically reboots. Remove all install media to boot to the controller

Additional Notes:
1. These steps are specially mentioned for the SLES 9 driver update installation on x86_64 platforms
2. For the 64-bit installation, DVD media is should be used. But there should not be any restrictions with the CD install as well.
3. In many cases, SuSE fails to find the floppy disk when driver update option is chosen. It comes back with “no floppy found error. In this case, copy the 01 and 02 directories from the floppy update disk to a CD-RW. Make sure both directories 01 and 02 are copied. Both of these are mandatory for driver update to happen
4. One more issue encountered on many x86_64 machines is related to ACPI. ACPI stands for Advanced Configurations and Power Interface. ACPI establishes industry-standard interfaces for OS-directed configuration and power management on laptops, desktops, and servers. If system fails to boot at all with the default options, provide acpi=off as kernel parameters. Also you may want to switch to a text only mode installation, if graphics card is not detected properly. To do this, hit F2 at the installation splash screen and choose appropriate option.
5. To update the driver from floppy based media, choose installation or installation disable ACPIand hit F6. Insert the floppy when prompted and install normally. If floppy does not work, see the next step 6, otherwise go to step 7
6. When the installer prompts to insert the floppy/cdrom for update disk, remove the installation DVD ROM from the drive and insert the CD with the driver update files. The SuSE installer does not automatically detect the driver update files on the CD; instead it pops up a dialog to choose the media for driver update files. Choose hda (cdrom). After the driver installation is complete, a dialog box would appear to display the information about the updated drivers. Make sure it displays 2 updated drivers megaraid_mm (megaraid management module) and megaraid (scsi driver). At this time, remove the update CD from the DVD drive and replace with the installation DVD ROM. It is possible to update the driver from a separate CD drive other than the installation drive. In this case, make sure the driver update disk is removed immediately after driver update. Otherwise, it might confuse the installer, and later during the actual package installation it might come back to the wrong CD to look for packages!
7. Make sure to remain close to the machine on which installation is being done, since there is one more important manual step to be performed towards the end of the installation before system is automatically rebooted. When the package installation is complete, the installer prepares the machine for first boot. Because of a bug in installer the driver is not updated for the kernel, which will be active for subsequent operations. Before rebooting, the installer displays a dialog box for 10 seconds. Hit stop on this dialog box to prevent reboot. Now switch to console 2 by pressing CTRL-ALT-F2 and run the command update/001/install/update.post2 Switch back to installation screen using CTRL-ALT-F7and continue rebooting the machine.
