 1. BEFORE YOU START

You need a MicroChannel machine with an XGA or XGA-2 display adapter
and the Windows 95/98 operating system.

The XGA206 driver is an UPDATE of the Windows XGA driver. You must have
the Windows 95/98 XGA driver installed before you update it with XGA206.

If you have not defined a monitor type or your monitor is unsupported,
try using the standard VESA DDC or Super VGA monitor type.

To differentiate between the Windows XGA driver and the XGA206
driver, the installable display types have been defined as:

"IBM XGA MCA" = IBM XGA Display Adapter with the XGA206 driver.
"IBM XGA-2 MCA" = IBM XGA-2 Display Adapter with the XGA206 driver.

The Windows XGA driver defines the XGA and XGA-2 display types
as "IBM XGA" and "IBM XGA-2".

   MULTIPLE XGA/XGA-2 ADAPTERS

If you have multiple XGA or XGA-2 adapters, only one adapter will be
supported. The adapter selection rules are as follows:

    * Planar XGA-2 and one XGA/XGA-2 display adapter in an extension slot.

Planar XGA-2 will be disabled and
the adapter in extension slot used.

    * Planar XGA-2 and multiple XGA/XGA-2 display adapters in extension slots.

Planar XGA-2 will be disabled and
the adapter in the LOWEST numbered extension slot used.

    * Multiple XGA/XGA-2 display adapters in extension slots.

The adapter in the LOWEST numbered extension slot will be used.

The Windows XGA driver uses the same adapter selection rules.

 2. DRIVER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.

   Start the "Display" applet program.

Select the "Settings" page, push the "Change Display Type" button.

Push the "Change" button in the "Adapter Type" area.

Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK".

Specify the path to the driver files and press the <ENTER> key.

Example 1: Insert the drivers disk in the A: floppy drive,
                  and enter A:\.

Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you copied
the drivers, either on your local hard drive or
                  on a network share.

Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers are,
choose the "Browse..." button and find them.

The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter that
corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and click OK.

Windows will copy the display drivers to the proper directories
   on your system.

Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from the
   "Systems Settings Change" dialog box.

After the system has restarted, you can go back into the Display applet
and select alternate screen resolutions and color depths.

   REFRESH RATES

   Windows 95

Selection of alternate refresh rates is not possible at this time.
All resolutions, with the exception of 1280x1024, are set to max 75 Hz.
1280x1024 is set to 53 Hz interlaced.

Windows offers the driver the best refresh rate based on the monitor
settings. The driver accepts and sets refresh rates of 75 Hz
(best refresh), 72 Hz, 70 Hz (only 1024x768) and 60 Hz only for the
XGA-2 display adapter. The setting "standard" or "optimal" indicates
   75 Hz.

The XGA display adapter supports 640x480 at 60Hz and 1024x768 at 43.5 Hz
   interlaced.

   Windows 98SE

Refresh rates can be selected and changed on the fly. The table below
shows the supported refresh rates for the XGA-2 Display Adapter.

XGA-2 Refresh Rate in Hz Standard/Optimal Setting in Hz
   ------------------------------------------------------------------
   640x480 60 72 75 75
   800x600 60 72 75 75
   1024x768 60 70 72 75 75
   1280x1024 * 53 I 53 I

   * = Interlaced

The refresh rates of the XGA Display Adapter cannot be changed. The table
below shows the fixed refresh rates of the XGA Display Adapter

XGA Refresh Rate in Hz Standard/Optimal Setting in Hz
   ------------------------------------------------------------------
   640x480 60 60
   1024x768 * 43.5 I 43.5 I

   * = Interlaced

END.
