                     HPT345 Host Adapter Device Driver
                         for IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0
                              Revision 1.00

#############################################################################
NOTE: HPT345 has been designed to let you add additional high performance
device(s) to your current computer system, your computer must have the
OS/2 Warp operating system already installed.
#############################################################################

This README provides the information needed to install and use the HPT345
device driver for OS/2 Warp 4.0.

The OS/2 Warp sub-directory (\OS2WARP) contains the following files:
    H345OS2.ADD A HPT345 device driver for OS/2 Warp 4.0
H345W4.DDP A file used by OS/2 Warp Setup for driver installation
README.TXT An ASCII text file describing the HPT345 device driver for
                OS/2 Warp 4.0

1. Installing Device Driver
    1. Boot up your computer
    2. Run the OS2 Device Driver Installation program ddinstal by
o Double clicking icon OS/2 System on the desktop to open OS/2
            System window
o Then double clicking icon System Setup
o Then double clicking icon Install/Remove
o Then double clicking icon Device Driver Install
or by typing ddinstal [Enter] from the OS/2 prompt window.
    3. Insert the floppy diskette containing HPT345 device driver for OS/2
        Warp into drive A:
    4. Change the source directory to A:\OS2WARP, then click Install
    5. Select the HPT345 device driver, then click OK
    6. Now the system will begin the installation. After the installation,
        click Exit
    7. When asked to confirm to exit, click Yes
    8. Device Driver Installation will ask you to shutdown and restart your
        system, click OK
    9. Shutdown and restart your system.

Your hard disk drive attached to the HPT345 host adapter must have been
partitioned and formatted before you can access it. Please refer to your
OS/2 Warp system manual on how to partition and format a hard disk drive.

2. Using Command Line Options
H345OS2.ADD driver is normally installed automatically and does not
require any modifications to its configuration. In certain situation
however, you may wish to modify the driver to meet your specific needs.

2.1 Command Line Syntax
The standard command line syntax for the H345OS2.ADD is
    basedev=h345os2.add [/v] [/drive [dma=dmamode|pio=piomode][!lba][!ms]]
The command and switches must be placed in the CONFIG.SYS file. Switch
settings take effect after the computer is rebooted. OS/2 command line
    switches are not case sensitive.

2.2 Command Switches
    v
Displays verbose information for devices attached to the HPT345 host
    adapter.

    drive
By default the device driver will use the highest timing modes and
capabilities reported by a drive to do the data transfer. Some drives
report wrong timing modes and capabilities, you might get problems when
you access them. You can use command line options to override the
capabilities reported by a drive. This specifies which drive to override
    on. It can be:
    PM primary/master
    PS primary/slave
    SM secondary/master
    SS secondary/slave

    dmamode
Specifies the overriding DMA mode. It can be:
    U2 ultra DMA mode 2
    U1 ultra DMA mode 1
    U0 ultra DMA mode 0
    MW2 multiple-word DMA mode 2
    MW1 multiple-word DMA mode 1
NO don't use DMA operation. The PIO will be used.

    piomode
Specifies the overriding PIO mode. It can be:
    4 PIO mode 4
    3 PIO mode 3
    2 PIO mode 2
    1 PIO mode 1
    0 PIO mode 0
If the piomode is specified, the driver will only use PIO operation on
    the corresponding drive.

    !lba
Indicates not to use LBA mode.

    !ms
Indicates not to use multiple sector commands.

2.3 Example Using Command Line Options
basedev=H345OS2.ADD /PM dma=U1 indicates that the device driver use
ultra DMA mode 1 on the master drive of the primary IDE channel.

3. Troubleshooting
If you are sure you have correctly installed the driver, please check the
    followings:
    1. Make sure you have not attached your system (booting) disk drive to
        the HPT345 host adapter.
    2. Make sure the hardware is installed properly, and the drive is
connected to the HPT345 host adapter correctly. Double check that
the cable between the adapter and the drive is correctly attached.
And also check the jumper setting on the drive is correct.
    3. Make sure that a power cable is properly attached to each drive
attached to the HPT345 host adapter.
    4. Make sure that the hard disk drive attached to the adapter has been
        partitioned and formatted.

After the above checking and restarting the system, if the driver reports
installed and you still cannot correctly access the drive attached to the
HPT345 host adapter, the drive may report wrong timing modes or
capabilities. You can try to use the command line options to override the
timing modes or capabilities reported by the drive (see Command Line
    Options above).

If you are sure you have double-checked everything and you still cannot
determine the source of the error, contact HighPoint Technical Support
for assistance (see HighPoint Technical Support and Service in this
    README file).

4. De-Installing Device Driver
    1. Boot up your computer
    2. Edit the CONFIG.SYS with a text editor
    3. Remove the line BASEDEV=H345OS2.ADD
    4. Delete file H345OS2.ADD from the OS2 directory
    5. Save the changes and reboot your system
