"VG Series Enhance IDE Controller Win95 Driver" Readme file         Version 1.1


Suppose you have finished the Hardware installation, please follow the
installation procedure below to install the "VG Series Enhance IDE
Controller Win95 Driver"

Before You Install Win95 driver. Please remove the VG4 DOS driver from
config.sys.


1. Remove the default installed ESDI/IDE device drivers.

   1.1  After your WIN95 system is started, open the "My Computer" folder.

   1.2  Double click on the "Control Panel" icon.

   1.3  Double click on the "System" icon.

   1.4  Click on the "Device Manager" option.

   1.5  Click on the "View Devices by Type" button.
        A list of the system devices connected to the system will be
        displayed.

   1.6  Click on the Hard disk controllers record.
        There should be two instances listed:
           * Standard ESDI/IDE Controller
           * Standard ESDI/IDE Controller

   1.7  Remove the Secondary Controller's listing.
        1.  Select the Second instance of the Standard ESDI/IDE Controller.
        2.  Click on the "Remove" option.
        3.  Select "OK" when prompted to remove this controller.

        Then remove the Primary Controller's listing.
        1.  Select the remaining instance of "Standard ESDI/IDE Controller".
        2.  Click on the "Remove" option.
        3.  Select "OK" when prompted to remove this controller.

   1.8  Select Yes when prompted to re-start Win95.


2. Install VG Series Enhance IDE Accelerator drivers as the Primary Controller.

   2.1  After your WIN95 is re-started, open the "My Computer" folder.

   2.2  Double click on the "Control Panel" icon.

   2.3  Double click on the "Add New Device" icon.

   2.4  Choose "No" search button and then click on "Next" button.

   2.5  Choose "Hard Disk controllers" and then click on "Next" button.

   2.6  Pick "Have Disk" button.

   2.7  Pick "Next" button.

   2.8  Key in a:\win95 or b:\win95 to prompt area.

   2.9  Pick "Next" button ........

   2.10  Choose "Finish" button.

   2.11  Double click on "System" icon.

   2.12  Pick "Device Manager".

   2.13  Choose "Hard Disk controller".

   2.14  Choose "VG Series Enhance IDE Adapter".

   2.15  Pick "Resource" button.

   2.16  Change Configure to "Configure 0 IRQ 14".

   2.17  Pick "OK" button.

   2.18  Pick "Close" button.

   2.19  Pick "Yes" to restart system.




3. Install the VG Series Enhance IDE Accelerator Win95 Driver again to be the
   Secondary controller.

   3.1  Open the "My Computer" folder.

   3.2  Double click on the "Control Panel" icon.

   3.3  Double click on the "Add New Device" icon.

   3.4  Choose "No" search button and then click on "Next" button.

   3.5  Choice "Hard Disk controllers".

   3.6  Pick "VG Series No Brand." in left column.

   3.7  Choose "VG Series Enhance IDE Adapter".

   3.8  Click on "Next" button.

   3.9  Choose "Finish" button.

   3.10  Pick "Yes" button to restart or shutdown system.

Now you have finished the installation of the VG Series Enhance IDE
controller in your system. You may access total 4 IDE drives in Windows.


4. Troubleshooting

  1. After starting computer, check "Hard disk controllers" in "System
     Properties". You will see the installation is correct or not.
     If it is incorrect, please reconfigure or install it again.

  2. If you have more than 2 hard drives or you want to use drive E: or later,
     add LASTDRIVE=Z in config.sys.

  3. If there is no "restart computer by <ALT+CTRL+DEL>" message after
     shutting down your system, please press <Enter> several times.

  4. You could use different drivers in Primary and Secondary IDE port.
     For example, install VG Series driver for port 0X1Fx(Primary IDE),
     and install General ESDI/IDE driver for port 0X17x(Secondary IDE).

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
