     |  VG4 ATAPI Driver for Windows NT 3.5x |
     +=======================================+

    This driver supports IDE hard disk and IDE CD-ROM, and it can
    be used under Windows NT 3.5 or later version. You need this
    driver only if you want to run in TURBO mode under Windows NT.



     ********* Installing the Driver *********

     1. In "Program Manager," doubly click on "Windows NT Setup" in
        "Main" group.

     2. In "Windows NT Setup", select "Options",
        next choose "/Add/Remove SCSI Adapters..."

     3. In "SCSI Adapter Setup", click on "Add...".

     4. In "Select SCSI Adapter Option", select
        "Other (Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)" in the
        "Adapter:" box.

     5. One "Insert Diskette" box will appear.
        Insert the driver diskette into Drive A: and type "A:\WIN_NT\NT3.1"
        into dialogue box.

     6. One "Select OEM Option" box will appear.
        Select "Promise Technology Inc. VG4 VL-IDE Controller" and click on "OK".

     7. One "Select SCSI Adapter Option" will appear.
        Click on "Install".

     8. After successful installation, the "SCSI Adapter Setup" box will
        show that "Promise Technology Inc. VG4 VL-IDE Controller"
        has been installed.

     9. Reboot your computer to assure the proper working of the driver.



     ******** Changing Operating Mode *******

     If you want to change the operating mode, please type the following
     command in "DOS Prompt" session:

        PTIVGAPI

     The following message will be shown on the screen to ask you which mode
     will be set:

        Will the controller be in TURBO or FAST mode
        (T/F)? (default=T)

     Please answer 'T' or 'F' for your setup.

     After the changes have been made, please do a hard boot of the system.


     ******** Removing the Driver ***


     1. In "Program Manager," doubly click on "Windows NT Setup" in
        "Main" group.

     2. In "Windows NT Setup", select "Options",
        next choose "/Add/Remove SCSI Adapters..."

     3. In "SCSI Adapter Setup",
        select "Promise Technology Inc. VG4 VL-IDE Controller" and
        click on "Remove".

     4. After successful removing, the "SCSI Adapter Setup" box will
        show that "Promise Technology Inc. VG4 VL-IDE Controller"
        has been removed.



     ********* Installing the Driver During Installing Windows NT 3.5x *********
     
     1. Copy \disk1.nt and all files from this subdirectory, including 
	txtsetup.oem, oemsetup.inf, ptivgapi.sys and ptivgapi.exe
        to a blank formatted diskette in drive A:\.

     2. If you will install Windows NT 3.5x system by diskette,
        boot the computer with the Windows NT 3.5x booting diskette.

     3. If you want to install Windows NT 3.5x by CD-ROM, 
        please type "WINNT" instead of "WINNT /B".

     4. In installing Windows NT 3.5x, select "Custom Setup".  
        Please read your Windows NT 3.5x manual for "Custom Setup".

     5. Select "Skip hardware detect".

     6. After Windows NT 3.5x scans SCSI adapters, press "S" to add an adapter.

     7. Select "Other (requires disk provided by hardware manufacturer)".

     8. Insert the driver diskette into drive A: and press ENTER.

     9. Follow the normal Custom Setup installation procedure.

     10. After installing complete Windows NT 3.5x system, 
	 copy the file, PITVGAPI.EXE, to $NT_ROOT\System32.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
