1. Package Contents 

The following list describes the contents provided in the QLogic 1GB PCI 
Ethernet NDIS miniport driver package:

 * ql40xnet.sys - QLogic 1GB PCI Ethernet NDIS Miniport driver
 * ql40xnul.inf - Qlogic iSCSI Function NULL driver installation inf file

2. OS Support 

This release has been tested with Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 (x86/x64) versions.  
Earlier versions of Windows are not supported.

4. Using the Driver

This section provides procedures for using the QLogic 1GB PCI Ethernet NDIS miniport
driver. 

4.1 Creating the Driver Disk

To create a driver disk:

1. Insert a blank diskette in the floppy disk drive.
2. Select the appropriate driver directory on the QLogic CD-ROM (CD).
3. Click, then drag the contents of the driver directory from the CD to the blank
   diskette. The diskette should have the following file structure:

. ql40xnet.sys		QLogic 1GB PCI Ethernet NDIS Miniport driver
. ql40xnul.inf		Qlogic iSCSI Function NULL driver installation inf file

4.2. Installing the Driver 

The operating system manages and controls the driver installation
process; the driver follows the process dictated by the operating
system. The driver installation cannot deviate from this process.

This section provides the most common ways of installing and upgrading
the driver, as documented for each operating system. Please consult
the operating system manuals for other installation procedures. 

This section is divided into the following three sections:

 * 4.2.1 Initial Installation of the driver
 * 4.2.2 Updating the Existing NDIS Miniport Driver
 * 4.2.3 Updating the iSCSI Function NULL Driver

NOTE:
. The QLogic iSCSI Adapter is a multifunction device. When
  installed in a PNP system, the OS will detect two functions for each
  adapter: Ethernet Controller and Network Controller. The Ethernet
  Controller refers to the ethernet (ndis) function.

4.2.1  Initial Installation of the driver

Windows 2003
------------

 1. Power down the system.

 2. Insert the card into a proper PCI slot.

 3. Power on the system.

 4. When the system boots up, the PNP subsystem displays a dialog box informing
  you that new hardware ("Ethernet Controller") has been found and 
  prompts you to install the driver.

 5. If the driver is on a floppy please insert it into the floppy drive.

 6. If the Hardware Update Wizard displays a prompt giving the option to connect
  to Windows Update to search for software, select “No” and click “Next”.

 7. If installing from removable media, select “Install the software automatically 
  (recommended)” and click “Next”.  The Update Wizard will locate the driver
  and automatically complete the installation.

 8. Otherwise if not installing from removable media, select "Install from a
  list or specific location (Advanced)” and click “Next”. 

 9. Select “Search for the best driver in these locations”.  

 10. Select “Include this location in the search” and browse to the location of 
  the driver.  Click Next.

 11. A warning message may appear regarding the Digital Signature for Windows
  Logo certification.  Click on "Yes" to continue with the installation.

 12. Click “Finish” to complete the installation.

. A system reboot is not required after installing the driver.

Windows 2000
------------
 1. Power down the system.

 2. Insert the card into a proper PCI slot.

 3. Power on the system.

 4. When the system boots up, the PNP subsystem displays a dialog box informing
  you that new hardware ("Ethernet Controller") has been found and 
  prompts you to install the driver.

 5. If your driver is on a floppy please insert the floppy disk into the
  floppy drive.

 6. Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) and click “Next”.

 7. In the “Locate Driver Files” dialog box, select the location of the driver.

 8. Ensure that the driver found is from the expected location.  Click “Next”.

 9. A warning message may appear regarding the Digital Signature for Windows
  Logo certification.  Click on "Yes" to continue with the installation.

 10. Click “Finish” to complete the installation.

. A system reboot is not required after installing the driver.

4.2.2 Updating the Existing NDIS Miniport Driver

Windows 2003
------------

 1. Launch the Device Manager (right-click on “My Computer” and select
  “Manage”).

 2. Double-click on “Network Adapters”.

 3. Right-click on the desired adapter “Qlogic 1Gb PCI Ethernet Adapter”
  and select “Update Driver”.

 4. If the Hardware Update Wizard displays a prompt giving the option to connect
  to Windows Update to search for software, select “No” and click “Next”.

 5. If installing from removable media, select “Install the software automatically
  (recommended)” and click “Next”.  The Update Wizard will locate the driver 
  and automatically complete the installation.

 6. Otherwise if not installing from removable media, select "Install from a 
  list or specific location (Advanced)” and click “Next”. 

 7. Select “Search for the best driver in these locations”.

 8. Select “Include this location in the search” and browse to the location of 
  the driver.  Click Next.

 9. A warning message may appear regarding the Digital Signature for Windows
  Logo certification.  Click on "Yes" to continue with the installation.

. A system reboot is not required after installing the driver.


Windows 2000
------------

 1. Launch the Device Manager (right-click on “My Computer” and select
  “Manage”).

 2. Double-click on “Network Adapters”.

 3. Right-click on the desired adapter “Qlogic 1Gb PCI Ethernet Adapter”
  And select “Properties”.

 4. Click on the Driver tab and click on “Update Driver”.  Click "Next".

 5. Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)". Click "Next".

 6. In the “Locate Driver Files” dialog box, select the location of the driver.

 7. The Wizard may indicate that a suitable driver is already installed.
  and that the current driver will be reinstalled, click "Next", and
  the new driver will be installed.

 8. A warning message may appear regarding the Digital Signature for Windows
  Logo certification.  Click on "Yes" to continue with the installation.

 9. Click “Finish” to complete the installation.

. A system reboot is not required after installing the driver.

4.2.3 Updating the iSCSI Function NULL Driver

Windows 2003
------------

 1. Launch the Device Manager (right-click on “My Computer” and select
  “Manage”).

 2. Double-click on System Devices.

 3. Right Click on the "QLogic NULL Driver" and select “Update Driver”.

 4. If the Hardware Update Wizard displays a prompt giving the option to connect
  to Windows Update to search for software, select “No” and click “Next”.

 5. If installing from removable media, select “Install the software automatically
  (recommended)” and click “Next”.  The Update Wizard will locate the driver
  and automatically complete the installation.

 6. Otherwise if not installing from removable media, select "Install from a list 
  or specific location (Advanced)” and click “Next”.

 7. Select “Search for the best driver in these locations” and select “Include 
  this location in the search”.  Browse to the location of the driver.  Click Next.

 8. A warning message may appear regarding the Digital Signature for Windows
  Logo certification.  Click on "Yes" to continue with the installation.

. A system reboot is not required after installing the driver.


Windows 2000
------------

 1. Unzip the driver installation package to a known location.

 2. Launch the Device Manager (right-click on “My Computer” and select
  “Manage”).

 3. Double-click on “System Devices”.

 4. Right-click on the desired device “QLogic NULL Driver” and select 
  “Properties”.

 5. Click on the Driver tab and click on “Update Driver”.  Click "Next".

 6. Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
  Click "Next".

 7. Select the location of the driver. Click "Next".

 8. The Upgrade Device Driver Wizard will display search results.  Verify that
  the driver found is in the correct location.  Click "Next".

 9. A warning message may appear regarding the Digital Signature for Windows
  Logo certification.  Click on "Yes" to continue with the installation.

 10. Click “Finish” to complete the installation.

. A system reboot is not required after installing the driver.


4.2. Removing the Driver

To remove the driver in a Windows environment, uninstall it as a Plug
and Play device:

 1. Turn off your computer. 

 2. Remove the device from your computer according to the
    manufacturer's instructions. 

NOTE: You do not normally have to use the Device Manager or the
Hardware wizard to uninstall a Plug and Play device. After you remove
the device from your computer and restart your computer, Windows
recognizes that it has been removed.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
