This package will update the BIOS, BMC, HSC, FRU and SDR firmware. This package will not affect any device drivers. The IBM Firmware Update package provides two packages used to update the firwmare through the Operating System. The Windows and Linux update packages can be used to update the firmware locally. Update instructions for these packages are detailed in section 2.0 of this readme file. Note: As stated in section 2.0 of the readme files for the Windows and Linux update packages, the firmware update requires the prior installation of the IBM driver update utility package. 1.2 Limitations - NA 1.3 Enhancements - NA 1.4 Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the Update: - The IBM Firmware Update requires the installation of the Firmware Update Windows Utility. 1.5 Dependencies - none 2.0 Installation and Setup Instructions Note: This utility will update the BIOS, BMC, SDR, FRU, and HSC firmware under the Operating System. It requires the installation of the System x3450 Firmware Update Windows Utility. 2.1 Download and install the System x3450 Firmware Update Windows Utility from the IBM website. 2.2 Performing this code update (command line) Note: It is necessary to determine if you want to install this prior to doing the installation. To make sure the version being installed is the correct version, compare it to the table in section 2.0 to verify the latest firmware releases. - Run the IBM System x3450 Firmware Update from a command line with the "-s" parameter. "./<update>.exe -s" where <update>.exe is the downloaded update for Windows. 2.3 Performing this code update (GUI) Note: It is necessary to determine if you want to install this prior to doing the installation. To make sure the version being installed is the correct version, compare it to the table in section 2.0 to verify the latest firmware releases. - Run the "System Update" by double-clicking the <update>.exe for Windows. - Choose "Perform Update" and click the "Next" button. - Click the "Exit" button. 3.0 BIOS Crisis Recovery 3.1 To recover from BIOS corruption move the BIOS SELECT jumper to cover pins 1 and 2. 4.0 Unattended Mode 4.1 Performing the update in unattended mode - Run the "IBM System x3450 Firmware Update" with the following command line: "<update>.exe -s" where <update>.exe is the downloaded update. 5.0 Web Sites and Support Phone Number You can download new and updated files for IBM products from http://www.ibm.com/support/. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
