1.0   Overview
----------------------------

  1.1  This README file contains instructions for installing the
       "IBM Active PCI Software" which consists of the following files:

       o ibmhpd.inf   - installation file for IBM
                        Active PCI Software.
       o ibmhpa.sys   - Active PCI Alert Driver.

  1.2  What is IBM Active PCI Software?

       The IBM Active PCI Software provides a PCI/PCI-X hot-plug solution
       on Windows Server 2008.

  1.3  The IBM Active PCI Software provides:

       o PCI-X bus speed mismatch warning
       o Power Fault warning
       o Log failure to the system events


2.0   Change History
----------------------------

  Version 6.0.0.0
      o Initial release for Windows Server 2008

  Note. Version 6 supports Windows Server 2008 only, and does not support
        Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003.


3.0   Installation and Setup Instructions
-----------------------------------------

  When Active PCI Software is not installed in a system with PCI/PCI-X slots
  that are hot-plug capable, the Windows Device Manager will show one "Unknown
  Device" under the "Other devices" class.

  The executable package 'ibm_dd_apci_6.0.0.0_windows_32-64.exe' can be used
  in the following ways:
    - to install/update Active PCI Software on the local system
    - to copy all files necessary for the installation/update to the local
      hard drive or other media.

  Installing/Updating the local system:
    1) Run the executable by double clicking on the file icon, or by typing
       'ibm_dd_apci_6.0.0.0_windows_32-64.exe' at a command prompt.
    2) Select "Perform Update" and then click "Next".
    3) Click "Update".
    4) Click "Exit" to exit the utility.

  Creating a diskette
    NOTE: The direct "Extract to Floppy" function is disabled for driver
          updates.

  To create a diskette:
    1) Follow the directions for extracting files, below.
    2) Copy all of the files from the selected directory onto a blank diskette.

  Extracting files
    1) Run the executable by double clicking on the file icon, or by typing
       'ibm_dd_apci_6.0.0.0_windows_32-64.exe' at a command prompt.
    2) Select "Extract to Hard Drive" and then click "Next".
    3) Select the desired destination directory or media and then click "OK".
    4) Click "Exit" to exit the utility.



4.0  Unattended Mode
-------------------------------

  To run this package in unattended mode, use the following command:

     ibm_dd_apci_6.0.0.0_windows_32-64.exe -s

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
