Section A. UPGRADE INSTRUCTION

For users of Microsoft Windows, please run AWBR193s1.EXE directly. It 
will search the Router on your LAN and ask you to type system password.
When prompted, just type in your password and click the "Upgrade" button.
It takes about 30 seconds to finish the whole procedure.

For users of other platforms, please refer Section D for 
platform-independent upgrade.

Section B. WARNING MESSAGE
**************************

The files will upgrade the firmware of your Cable/DSL Router to version R1.93s1.

1. **NOTE!** DO NOT POWER OFF THE UNIT WHEN THE UNIT IS BEING UPGRADED, 
   OR THE UNIT MAY BE DAMAGED.

2. The configuration will not be changed. You need not configure it again.

   problems.

5. Solve incompatible issue with ETHome Cable.

6. Solve the TCP session timeout problem of ssh (port 22) and telnet (port 23).

7. Enlarge timeout for print server to solve some printing problems.

8. Allow the AppleTalk packet to transmit and receive between Wireless 
   and Wired LAN

9. Solve the incompabile problem with the Orinoco WLAN card on Linux.

10. Bug fixed: when "Wake-up" button is clicked, all checkboxes on "Misc Item" 
    page will be unchecked.

11. Port number of each access control group is increased to 30.

12. SonicWall SOHO VPN pass-through problem was solved.


*** R1.92c TO R1.93a1 ***

1. Add the features for MAC Address Control (Connection Control and 
   Association Control)

2. Add the features for DHCP server to assign the fixed mapping of MAC 
   addresses and IP addresses.

3. Fix the bug that causes connection problem with the NetBEUI and other 
   non TCP/IP protocol.

4. Support the following applications:
   . ICQ Phone
   . Net2Phone
   . MSN Messenger voice communications and file transfer
   
   You have to configure the PC to be the DMZ host.

5. Fix a bug of NetMeeting handling. You have to configure the PC 
   to be the DMZ host.

6. Add a firewall feature to block port ranges for DMZ host. Just enable a 
   "Special Application" with null trigger,all ports listed in INCOMING PORTS 
   will be blocked out even DMZ host is enabled. The following setting is 
   recommended when you enable DMZ host:

      Trigger = [    ], Incoming Ports = [ 1-1023 ]

   Note: the above setting will not affect the function of Virtual Server.

7. Fix a bug that causes lock-up problems when WAN type is Dynamic IP Address.

1. Support absolute timestamp on system log.

2. Fix a bug that causes problem to backup setting.

3. Fix a bug that causes problem when IP address pool of DHCP server was 
   changed and the system wasn't cold rebooted.

4. Support 3Com HomeConnect Dual Link ADSL Modem.

5. Add a new feature to disable auto-dial for Dial-up Network.

6. Fix a bug that causes reconnection problem for PPP over Ethernet.

7. Fix a security hole that was reported by Fredrik Jacobsson.

Section D. Platform-independent Firmware Upgrade
************************************************

** METHOD I: WEB UPGRADE **

Please follow steps below to upgrade:

1. Go to the SMC Web site to download firmware image file,AWBR193s1.BIN. 
   Remember the location you save this file.

2. Connect the Web user interface and login as system administrator.

3. Click the "Firmware Upgrade" button of "Toolbox" page. And the "Firmware 
   Upgrade" screen will appear.

4. Enter the location of the previously downloaded file in the text box, or 
   click "Browse" button to search for the file. And then click "Upgrade" button.

** METHOD II: FTP UPGRADE **

1. Use any FTP client you preferred to upload the downloaded files.

2. The username to login the FTP server is "root" and the password is the 
   same as the system administrator's. The default setting is "admin".

3. Close the FTP session when the four files are uploaded. It takes about 30 
   seconds. After the session is closed, the router will be restarted automatically.

4. The configuration will not be changed!

How To Update Drivers Manually

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
