1. Introduction
The EPSON Printer Port driver optimizes a local parallel port to increase
the data transfer rate to EPSON printers in Windows 2000. Try installing
this software if you are not satisfied with the print speed.

Before you install this driver, please note the following:
- This software is only available for Windows 2000.
- To install and make settings for EPSON Printer Port, you must have
administrator privileges and you should know how to use your computer's
  BIOS setup program.

2. Installation Instructions
Follow these steps to install EPSON Printer Port.

1) Double-click SETUP.EXE to start installation. After installation,
a message will appear on your screen informing you that installation
   is complete. Click OK.
2) If this is the first time you have installed this software, you need to
restart your computer before assigning your printer to an EPSON Printer
Port. See the next section for instructions on configuring your BIOS and
   making EPSON Printer Port settings.

Note:
Do not attempt to assign a printer to EPSON Printer Port before restarting
your system. Otherwise, printing will be disabled and your system may become
unstable.

3. Making EPSON Printer Port Settings
Follow these steps to configure your BIOS and make EPSON Printer Port settings.

Note:
Whenever you update or reinstall the printer driver, you need to reselect
the EPSON Printer Port in the Ports menu as explained below.

1) Use your computer's BIOS setup program to select ECP as the parallel port
setting. See your computer manual for information on changing BIOS settings.
2) In Windows, open your printer's properties and click the Ports tab.
3) Select the check box for the EPS_LPT EPSON Printer Port you want to use.
If you selected EPS_LPT1, setup is complete and your printer is now ready
to print with the EPSON Printer Port. If you selected a different EPS_LPT
port, then you need to configure the port as explained in the following
   steps.
4) Click the Configure Port button, then click the tab for the EPS_LPT port
   you want to use.
5) Make IRQ and DMA settings by double-clicking the IRQ and DMA Resource types
and entering the settings that match your expansion board"s IRQ and DMA
   configuration.
6) Click OK, then close the printer properties dialog box.

4. Troubleshooting

- If a message stating "At least one service or driver failed during system
  startup." appears, try the following:
    a) Make sure there are no IRQ conflicts between LPT settings and other
devices, such as sound cards or modems.
    b) In Device Manager, select "Never use an interrupt" in the ECP Printer
       Port Properties dialog box.

- Printing problems or communication errors
If you have trouble when printing or when using the EPSON Status Monitor
  utility, try the following:
  1) The problem may be caused by minor incompatibilities between your computer
hardware and EPSON Printer Port. In the Configure EPS_LPT Port dialog box,
     try the following:
       a) Clear the Use an interrupt check box.
       b) If the problem persists, clear the Use DMA transfer check box.

  2) If the above measures did not fix the problem, your computer hardware and
EPSON Printer Port have serious compatibility issues that require one or
     both of the following actions:
       a) In the Ports menu, cancel the selection of EPSON Printer Port and
select a standard LPT port for use with your printer.
       b) Uninstall EPSON Printer Port as explained in the next section.

5. Uninstalling EPSON Printer Port
To uninstall EPSON Printer Port, follow these steps:

Note:
Uninstalling EPSON Printer Port does not uninstall the printer driver.

1) Click Start.
2) Point to Programs, then point to EPSON Printers.
3) Select EPSON Printer Port Uninstall.

The changes will take effect when Windows is restarted.

6. Using EPSON Printer Port with a Scanner:
If your printer is connected to your computer through your scanner's parallel
port, do not attempt to scan while printing, as the printer may not complete
printing successfully.

7. Known Limitations for This Release
- Your computer's hibernation and standby modes are not available when EPSON
  Printer Port is installed.
