Troubleshooting
---------------
This file explains what to do if your ParaPort-2 Ethernet Adapter is not
functioning correctly. The ParaPort-2 Ethernet Adapter does not have any
user serviceable parts. Hence, troubleshooting simply consists of
running the install utility program to find out the cause of malfunction.
After you establish what is the cause of the problem, send the adapter
for servicing. At the same time, you should submit the diagnostic test
results stored in the file P2ERR.LOG (in this case the error message).
This will mean a faster turnaround time to repair your adapter.
Trivial Errors
--------------
The following are trivial error messages that can be fixed by the user.
Take the appropriate action and re-run the Install program.
1. ParaPort-2 not found,
2. This utility does not support ParaPort-1,
3. Network cable not connected properly.
Illustration:
Please connect your network cable properly, or it will give a prompt
message to alert you (See Screen 3); simply connect and terminate
the network cable and hit any key to continue.

Non-trivial errors
------------------
The following are the non-trivial errors which have to be reported to the
Technical support staff.If the following errors occur, re-run the Install
program with the option /l( Install /l) to log the error messages in the
P2ERR.LOG file and send this file to Technical support address that can
be found in the manual of the ParaPort-2 Ethernet adapter.
1. Basic test failure,
2. IRQ test failure,
3. No workable mode found on this machine,
****NOTE 1**** : If this error occurs, please INSERT the following in
the DOSODI and NDIS2 drivers.
DOSODI : Please try using the KEYWORD MODE in the
NET.CFG file with the following options one
after the other in the same sequence.
A, B then C.
e.g., MODE A.
NDIS2 : Please try using the KEYWORD MODE in the
PROTOCOL.INI file with the following options
one after the other in the same sequence.
A,B then C.
e.g., MODE=A.
****NOTE 2**** : Not all machines support all the modes.
****NOTE 3**** : For machines supporting EPP MODE and there is problem
in initialising the DOSODI/NDIS2 drivers or do not
function properly, try the following KEYWORD.
DOSODI : Insert SKIPEPPBIOS in NET.CFG file.
NDIS2 : Insert SKIPEPPBIOS in PROTOCOL.INI file.
4. Interrupt test failure.

The followings are the work-around keywords for Paraport 2.
Please try them in different combinations in your
PROTOCOL.INI file and see whether it works or not.
Before Win9x boots up, please make sure the [Printer] light
on Paraport adapter is on, which indicates whether the
printer port is on compatible mode or not for Paraport adapter.
If the [Printer] light is off, please
1. edit PROTOCOL.INI file with different keywords (listed below)
and save it;
2. shut down and detach Paraport adapter from your computer;
3. recycle the power to Paraport adapter;
4. re-attach Paraport adapter to computer;
5. turn on computer;
6. watch the [Printer] light on the adapter.

PRINT -- enable bypass printing. No value needed. By default, printing
bypass is disabled. The reason is it affect the performance and since not
most don't use the bypass feature.
MACHINETYPE -- some BIOS did not return the proper machine type as PS/2, PC,
etc. PS/2 and PC BIOS setup the serial and parallel devices differently.
Setting this value will forced driver to this one or the other to
initialize Paraport. Use AT for PC BIOS and Toshiba for PS/2 BIOS.
ACKTYPE -- driver should use polling or interrupt mode. Interrupt mode is
preferred and is faster. But in some machine ParaPORT don't reliably thus
need to set to polling mode. Performance will be affected but may not be
noticable as paraport performance is not fast.
SKIPEPPBIOS -- some BIOS like Compaq AERO contain EPP call routine of older
spec v1.7 which does not work correct. This parameter will skip supporting
EPP mode on the machine.
Mode A,B,C -- is actually to set mode to uni-direction, bi-direction, and
EPP respectively. If the driver failed to run which mean the driver auto
detected incorrectly.
INTERRUPT 5 or 7 -- some BIOS return the wrong IRQ number. Setting a
number will forced the driver to use that interrupt number.
** Note: NetWare driver use the keyword INT. NDIS driver use INTERRUPT.

printer port in system CMOS is set to EPP mode:

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
