This README file contains installation notes and important
information for the ApointNT.

ApointNT provides a convenient way to modify setting for 
Alps GlidePoint. The ApointNT drivers are compatible with 
most standard mice and similar pointing devices.

1. Driver Installation

    1.1 Installing from Control Panel

     Use this procedure to change from a standard Windows NT
     mouse driver, or from another driver that uses the
     standard Mouse Properties sheet and contains the General
     tab:

     1) From the Start menu, select Settings, Control Panel.
     2) Double-click Mouse to open Mouse Properties.
     3) Select the General tab, then click Change. 
     4) The Select Device screen will appear, then Click Have
        Disk.
     5) Insert the driver disk in your floppy drive. Confirm
        or correct the source file path (normally "A:\"), 
        then click OK.
     6) Click Alps GlidePoint, then click OK to copy the
        driver files to your system.
     7) After the files are copied, Mouse Properties will
        show the new device name. Click Close.
     8) The System Settings Change message will offer to
        restart your computer so the new settings can take
        effect. Click Yes.


    1.2 Installing from Device Manager

     Use this procedure if you cannot access the Change
     option through Mouse Properties (for example, your
     current driver substitutes its own control panel):

     1) From the Start menu, select Settings, Control Panel.
     2) Double-click System to open System Properties.
     3) Select the Device Manager tab.
     4) Click the plus sign next to the Mouse category, then
        Double-click the current device name.
     5) Select the Driver tab, then click Change Driver. 
     6) If the Select Device screen will appear, then Click
        Have Disk.
     7) Insert the driver disk in your floppy drive. Confirm
        or correct the source file path (normally "A:\"), 
        then click OK.
     8) Click Alps GlidePoint, then click OK
     9) If returned to the property sheet Driver tab, then 
        Click OK to copy the driver files to your system.
     10)The System Settings Change message will offer to
        restart your computer so the new settings can take
        effect. Click Yes.


2. Using the ApointNT Control Panel

   ApointNT Control Panel provides easy to use method of 
   customizing pointing device settings.

     1) From the Start menu, select Settings, Control Panel.
     2) Double-click Mouse icon to open Mouse Properties. 
     3) Mouse properties are grouped into seven categories
       (Buttons, Pointers, Motion, Orientation, Shortcuts, 
        Tapping, General) or seven categories(except Tapping). 
        NOTE:Properties pages are changed by device function
             to six or seven pages.  
     4) When you are satisfied with your settings, click OK
        to close the Alps GlidePoint Control Panel. If you
        want detail of operation, please see help file accessible
        from within the ApointNT Control Panel.

3  Restoring Your Installation

     The ApointNT drivers are compatible with most standard
     mice and similar pointing devices. However, If you do
     change driver to use another device, you can restore the 
     ApointNT drivers as follows. 

     Follow the first-time installation procedure in section 1,
     (using the Control Panel) as for as the Select Device screen.

    3.1 If "Alps GlidePoint" can be seen in the model column
     1) Click Alps GlidePoint, then click OK.
     2) When return to previous property sheet, then click Close or 
        click OK.
     3) The System Settings Change message is displayed. Click 
        Yes so the new setting can take effect.

    3.2 If "Alps GlidePoint" can't be seen in the model column
     1) Click on Show all devices.
     2) Click Alps in Manufacturers column.
     3) Click Alps GlidePoint in Models column, then click OK.
     4) When returned to previous property sheet, then click Close or 
        click OK.
     5) The System Settings Change message is displayed. Click 
        Yes so the new setting can take effect.

       NOTE:If you do not see Alps in the Manufacturers column, 
            you can install as in section 1

4. Using Another Mouse

     The ApointNT drivers are compatible with most standard
     mice and similar pointing devices. However, If you do
     change or add pointing device, you can use the ApointNT
     set of utilities with then new hardware.

    4.1 How to attach the PS/2 mouse
     If your computer was already setup ApointNT, you can use the 
     external PS/2 mouse.

     NOTE:You may need to set your computer for using PS/2 mouse. 
          If you can't use external PS/2 mouse, see your computer 
          users guide.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
