1. Product Description

MAGNUM 6, SV243, is a six button joystick for IBM PC and compatibles.  
It is also equipped with a Four-Way-View control and Throttle control 
which is useful in many popular flight simulator games.  The MAGNUM 6 
is compatible with Windows 95.  It also comes with a Joystick-to-mouse 
driver to enable users to use the joystick as a mouse pointing device.

2. Functional Description :

Please refer to product drawing for location of buttons and control knobs.

2.1.  Fire Buttons A & B
These fire buttons are the fundamental fire buttons for a joystick.  
It should function in any computers with either single or dual game port.

2.2.  Fire Buttons C, D, PINKIE and SIXTH
These fire buttons are extra fire buttons.  These four fire buttons will 
become mal-function when the joystick is used in computers with only one 
game port.

2.3.  Four-Way-View Control Knob
This control knob manipulates the four micro-switch representing UP, DOWN, 
LEFT and RIGHT.  It is designed to be control by the user's thumb.  When 
it is pushed up, the UP switch is activated.  When it is pulled down, the 
DOWN switch is activated.  When it is moved left or right, the corresponding 
LEFT or RIGHT switch will be activated respectively.  This control knob is 
found most useful in many popular flight simulator games.  However, it only 
functions in games which support such device and it only works in computers 
with dual game port.

2.4.  Throttle Control
The throttle control is a slider.  This control is very common in many 
flight simulator or motor racing games.  This control and the Four-Way-View 
control together with the Sixth fire button share the same line in a game 
port.  Therefore, only one of the control can be activated.  There is a 
3-position switch on the underside of the base to select which control 
shall be activated.

2.5.  X and Y Axis Trimmer Control
The x and y axes are designed to be self centering.  However, different 
game software's define different values to represent centre position.  
These control knobs enable user to trim the centre position of the x and 
y axes to suit different game software's.  For game software's equipped 
with joystick calibration facility, such trimming control is usually not 
required and it is best to leave the position of the two trimmer control 
knobs to stay at around the centre position.


Joystick-To-Mouse Device Drive

This device driver enables the Magnum 6 to be used as mouse pointing device 
in Windows 95 or Windows 3.1 environment.

Once installed, this device driver can be enable or disable as needed.  
If enable, the pointing arrow can then be controlled either by the Magnum 6 
just like a mouse pointing device while at the same time the functions of a 
conventional mouse pointing device is not affected.

When the Magnum 6 is working as a mouse pointing device, the fire button A 
will become the mouse's left button and the fire button B the mouse's right 
button.
Fire button C and fire button D will have two additional functions to help 
controlling the pointing arrow.  

Fire button C will be used as "drag" function.  When this button is pressed, 
the pointing arrow will not be moved by the joystick until this button is 
released.  The purpose of this button is to locate the pointing arrow to 
correspond to the position of the joystick.  This function is very useful 
in cases where the joystick cannot bring the pointing arrow to a far end.  
For example, since the joystick-to-mouse is using relative position 
algorithm to control the pointing device, the centre position of the 
joystick may have been shifted after a while.  The centre position of 
the joystick can be aligned with the centre of the screen by first 
bringing the pointing arrow to the centre of the screen and then pressing 
the C button while at the same time move the joystick to the centre position 
and then releasing the C button.  The pointing arrow will be changed to 
other shape in Windows 3.1 or an icon appeared in the top right corner in 
Windows 95 while the C button is pressed.

Fire button D will be used as "freeze" function.  When this button is 
pressed once, the pointing arrow will not be moved by the joystick until 
the D button is pressed once again.  The purpose of this button is to place 
the pointing device to a specific location and "freeze" there as long as 
it released by pressing the button D again.  During the "freeze" period, 
the joystick cannot move the pointing arrow, but the mouse can still control 
the pointing arrow.  When the joystick is "frozen", the pointing arrow will 
change to other shape in Windows 3.1 or an icon will appear in the top right 
corner of the screen in Windows 95 to signal the users.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
