IX-4015 ASPI Installation Instructions

The Canon IX-4015 can now be connected to existing ASPI
compliant Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) cards. In
order to do this you must setup your existing hardware to
recognize your scanner connection and you must install the
compatible software drivers for these interfaces. Before
proceeding with the installation make sure you have the
following:

* Installation instructions for your ASPI card (from your card
  manufacture)
* SI4A.SYS file (ASPI compatible scanner driver)
* CANONSI.PXW (ASPI driver for OFOTO and the IX-4015)

**Notes on SCSI devices

If you will be chaining SCSI devices make sure your total length
of the chain is no longer than 20 feet.

* SCSI terminators are an integral part of the SCSI chain because
  it enable the signals to understand where the end of the SCSI
  chain is. Only the first and the last devices in your SCSI
  chain should be terminated

* Set your SCSI ID on the rear of the scanner. All SCSI devices
  on a chain have a unique SCSI ID number. Make sure that the
  number you choose for the IX-4015 does not conflict with any
  other SCSI device.

* Try not to use 0,1 or 7 as SCSI ID (address) numbers for the
  scanner. Typically these are reserved by hard drives or the
  internal SCSI card.

Installing your Scanner:

There are three ways you can have the IX-4015 connected to your
ASPI compatible SCSI card:

* As the only external SCSI device
* Connected into the middle of a SCSI chain
* Connected at the end of a SCSI chain

Please refer to the installation instructions that involve your
setup.

Installing the IX-4015 as the Only External SCSI Device

* Turn off your PC

* Before you connect your scanner you must disable the terminators
  on the internal card. Please refer to your documentation from
  your SCSI card manufacturer in order to do this.

* Once you have disabled the terminators, connect the scanner,
  with your scanner cable, to the internal card.

* Since the scanner will be the only external SCSI device, make
  sure the SCSI terminator is attached to your SCSI cable.

* Refer to the Software Installation section for further
  instructions.

Installing the IX-4015 in the Middle of a SCSI Chain

* Turn off your PC

* Turn off any other SCSI devices

* Disconnect the attached SCSI device that you want after the
  IX-4015.

* Attach the scanner to the original device SCSI device or card.
  Make sure to remove the terminator from the cable before
  attaching the scanner.

* Connect the device, that you removed previously, to the IX-4015.

* Connect all power cords and turn on the PC and all SCSI devices.

* Refer to the Software Installation section for further
  instructions.

Installing the IX-4015 to the End of a SCSI Chain

* Turn off your PC

* Turn off any SCSI devices that are attached to your PC.

* Remove or disable any terminators that are attached to the last
  SCSI device in the chain.

* Attach the IX-4015, with its SCSI cables, to the last device in
  the chain. Since the IX-4015 is the last device in the chain be
  sure to attach the terminator to the IX-4015 SCSI cable.

* Connect all power cords, turn on the PC and all SCSI devices.

* Refer to the Software Installation section for further
  instructions.

Software Installation

** Software Notes: Before installing the Canon software you
must install the ASPI Manager software provided with your ASPI
SCSI interface card. Refer to your card manufacturer
installation instructions if you have not yet installed the ASPI
manager.

Install the OFOTO software and twain driver software onto your
PC. Please refer to your OFOTO and/or Canon IX-4015
documentation for installation instructions.

After installing the Twain driver and the OFOTO software you
must install the IX-4015 ASPI compatible drivers.

Installing the ASPI Driver

* If you are within Windows, close Windows and exit to the DOS
  prompt.

* Insert the disk that contains the SI4A.SYS driver and copy it to
  the root directory of your hard drive. If the diskette is in
  your "A" drive and your root directory is C:\, type:

	COPY   A:\SI4A.SYS   C:\

* Use your DOS EDIT program to edit your CONFIG.SYS file. If your
  CONFIG.SYS file is on your "C" drive, type:

	EDIT   CONFIG.SYS

* Delete or remove all lines that have reference to the SI4.SYS
  file, for example, delete the following lines if they exist:

	DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\TWAIN\IX4015\SI4.SYS

	DEVICE=C:\OFOTO\SI4.SYS

* At the last line of your CONFIG.SYS add the line:

	DEVICE=C:\SI4A.SYS

* Exit and save your file.

* Reboot your computer.

If you will be using the OFOTO software program with the ASPI
SCSI card you must copy the new OFOTO Canon driver file into the
existing OFOTO directory.

Installing the OFOTO IX-4015 ASPI Driver

* If you are within Windows, close Windows and exit to the DOS
  prompt.

* At the DOS prompt copy the CANONSI.PXW file into the OFOTO2 sub
  directory. (OFOTO automatically installs its files into the
  OFOTO2 sub directory. Please make any modifications if you have
  changed the default directory of OFOTO) If the Canon driver is
  in the "A" drive, type:

	COPY   A:\CANONSI.PXW    C:\OFOTO2

* Reboot your computer.
