\HELP\WIN95_98\WIN98.TXT Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter --------------------------------------------- Driver Installation for Microsoft Windows 98 -------------------------------------------- Getting Started --------------- Microsoft Windows Windows 98 do not come bundled with the driver for the adapter. You must go through the following procedure to install the device driver into the Windows 98 system for the adapter to function properly. The Windows 98 CD is needed to complete this installation. The following installation example illustrates the installation of the Adapter. Windows 98/98-SE Installation Procedure --------------------------------------- It is recommended that you complete the Windows 98 installation without the adapter card in the system. 1. Shut down the computer and install the adapter into the slot. 2. Start your Windows 98 system normally. Upon power up, it will prompt "PCI Ethernet Controller" in New Hardware Found dialog box.the system will indicate to you that a new PCI Ethernet Controller has been found. 3. Select "Search for the best driver for your device(Recommended)", then click "Next" button. 4. Insert the Installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. 5. Select "Specify a location", type "D:\" then click "Next" button. If your CD-ROM drive uses a different letter, type that letter in place of “D.” 6. When Windows locates the correct driver, click Next. 7. After the driver installation is complete, remove the Installation CD-ROM from your CD-ROM drive, click "Finish", and then click "Yes" to restart your computer. When the computer restarts, the installation procedure will be complete. Advanced Setup -------------- The driver configures the adapter card to operate in autosensing mode by default. In this mode, the card automatically selects the most appropriate operating speed and duplex mode. There might be instances when you need to configure the adapter card to operate at a particular speed and duplex mode. The following procedure guides you into the Windows 98 system for this setting. 1. In Control Panel, open "Network". 2. Click on the "U.S. Robotics 10/100 PCI NIC TX" selection. Then, clickon the "Properties" button. 3. Click on the "Advanced" memu tab in the adapter card window. 4. Click on the "Link Speed/Duplex Mode" property selection. 5. The "NetworkMedia" windows will show the following possible selections: Auto Mode 10Half Mode 10Full Mode 100Half Mode 100Full Mode Choose the appropriate setting as needed.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
