Recommended Steps to Test:
(1) Make sure the On-board audio option is enabled on in the BIOS
    Advanced settings first.
    Verify  if "\hp\drivers\audio_HD_realtek_LPC" folder and files exist.
    Note: for non-Realtek audio systems, this folder should be absent.
(2) Check in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
	Windows\CurrentVersion "DevicePath" entry to see if 
	"c:\hp\drivers\audio_HD_realtek_LPC" is included in the path.
        Note: For non-Realtek audio systems, this path should be excluded.
(3) Verify if "Realtek High Definition Audio" 
    PnP'ed okay by checking the Device Manager's 
    "Sound video and game controller" section of the System Properties.
(4) Verify the correct version of the audio driver is installed:
	Device Manager's "Sound, video and game controllers" section
	"Realtek High Definition Audio" 
	should have driver containing the date/version: 
		07/29/2004, 5.10.0.5028
(5) In the Audio Controller Properties, there are 3 pages:
	General, Properties, and Driver.  
(6) Verify the Digital Signature is signed and WHQL'ed by MS by using 
    both "sigverif" and "chklogo5 (aka Signed Driver Check)".
    *** Note: For non-WHQL driver, this step should be excluded.
(7) If the image is recovered from the Recovery CDs/DVD: 
	(a) Check in the Application Recovery's "Driver"  section,
	    the "Realtek Audio Driver" should be present.
	(b) Rename c:\hp\drivers\audio_HD_realtek_LPC folder to a tmp folder 
	    and re-install via App Recovery.  Then, verify correct
	    number of files are present.
	(c) Remove driver then re-install this driver and repeat steps (1)-(7)
    Note: For non-Realtek audio system, this block should not be present.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
