II. About Scanner Driver IS Scan (Version 3.50)
=====================================================================

1. Compatible Equipment
The following Canon BJ printers can use the Scanner
Driver IS Scan (Version 3.50) as a TWAIN-compatible
   driver.
Check your printer model before starting.

     -BJC-50
     -BJC-80
     -BJC-2000
     -BJC-4300*
     -BJC-4400
     -BJC-4650
     -BJC-6100
     -BJC-3000
     -BJC-8200
     -BJC-6500
     -BJC-85
     -BJC-2100
     -BJC-6200
     -BJC-55
     -S400
     -S450
     -S800
     -S4500

*BJC-4300 does not support IS Scan under Windows NT 4.0,
      Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Precautions for Use
The use of this scanner driver is subject to the
following conditions. Keep these in mind when using
   the scanner driver.

- This scanner driver operates with Windows 95, Windows 98,
Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows Me and Windows XP.

- If an IS Scan is already installed, uninstall the IS Scan from
your computer before installing this scanner driver.

- This scanner driver requires Administrator authority for
installation with Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Once installed, the scanner driver can then be operated by users
  without Administrator authority.

- This scanner driver supports infrared communication via
the serial infrared port when a Microsoft infrared
  communication driver is installed.
However, this feature cannot be used if bi-directional
communication via the USB or LPT ports LPT1 to LPT3 is in
  operation.
With the BJC-2000 printer, bi-directional communication via
the USB port is possible using a Canon USB-to-Parallel
  converter cable (Windows 98 only).
The BJC-80, BJC-50 and BJC-85 cannot scan in infrared
communications on Windows 2000, Windows Me and Windows XP.

- The scanner driver automatically selects whether to communicate
on the LPT, infrared serial, or USB port.
If a BJ printer that supports scanning is connected to both
the LPT and USB ports, a "Select Communication Port" dialog
box will appear so you can select which port to use.
When using the infrared port, make sure a BJ printer that
supports scanning is not connected to either the LPT or USB port.

- If using the scanner driver as a TWAIN interface,
be careful not to close the application from which the
scanner driver was launched. Doing so can cause the
  system to malfunction.

- If you restart Windows while this scanner driver is running,
the scanner may not be reset. Be sure to quit the scanner
driver before you exit or restart Windows.

- Do not suspend computer operation while this scanner
driver is running. Some computers may not display the
Windows Start Menu properly when the computer recovers
from suspended operation. If this occurs, restart Windows
by pressing the Alt + F4 keys.

- Do not open the printer during scanning or when reading the
standard white sheet during white level calibration. Doing
so may let extraneous light in and interfere with the
reading of the original image or white level. If you
accidentally open the printer when reading the standard
white sheet, close it and repeat the reading.

- With some applications, a cancel command while
transferring a scanned image can cause the scanner
driver to operate improperly, so that the application
  does not respond.

- If you are using the BJ printer as a scanner, quit the
  BJ status monitor.

- If the scanner driver is installed on Windows 95, Windows 98
or Windows NT 4.0 and the operating system is then upgraded
to Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the scanner driver will be
inoperable. If the operating system is upgraded to Windows 2000
or Windows XP, uninstall the scanner driver. Then reinstall the
  scanner driver.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Restrictions on Application Software
- When using OmniPage Pro for Windows 95 (Version 7.0)
as a graphics application, be sure to follow the
  procedure below.
   1. Start up the scanner driver first.
   2. Perform the white level calibration data setting.
   3. Then start up OmniPage Pro for Windows 95.
When the scanner driver prompts you to update the white
  calibration data (e.g., temperature fluctuations),
click on the "Cancel" button in the message dialog box,
  and scan the image again.

- When using OmniPage Pro for Windows 95 (Version 7.0)
as a graphics application, the paper size setting for
OmniPage Pro for Windows 95 must be identical to the
paper size setting for the scanner driver.
If the two settings are not identical to each other,
an error occurs after scanning the images several times
and the system operation is halted.

- When using LivePix as a graphics application, A3 or
Tabloid size paper cannot be used for scanning.

- When using Microsoft Picture it! as a graphics
application, do not use the black and white settings
for Image Type of the scanner driver; otherwise
distortion may appear on the image data (regardless of
  the resolution selected).

- "Paint Shop Pro 4.2"/Jasc Software, Inc.
If a scanned image is transferred to Paint Shop Pro 4.2,
and the scanner driver is then restarted and an operation
such as selecting the scan area is performed, an
application error (Page Violation) can occur.
(This problem has been resolved with Paint Shop Pro 5.01.)

- "Imaging for Windows NT"/Wang Laboratories, Inc.
This software cannot be used with the Imaging accessory
software in Windows NT 4.0, because scanning options
such as "Scan New" "Select Scanner" "Scan Preferences"
etc., are not enabled, even though the driver is
  TWAIN-compatible.

III. About Scanner Utility IS Scan Plus (Version 1.70)
=====================================================================

1. Compatible Equipment
The following Canon BJ printers can use all functions
of IS Scan Plus (Version 1.70) scanner utility software.
Check your printer model before starting.

     -BJC-50
     -BJC-80

     -BJC-6200
     -BJC-55
     -S400
     -S450
     -S800
     -S4500

*BJC-4300 does not support IS Scan Plus under Windows NT 4.0,
      Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Functional Description
The IS Scan Plus (Version 1.70) scanner utility software
   provides the following functions.

- Copy
Combines the capture and print functions. Useful for
  simple copying procedures.

- Capture Image
Captures images of a wide variety of documents, from
business letters to photographs. Also allows you to
adjust, process, print or save the captured image.

- Capture Photo
Useful for capturing images of service-size and
panorama-size photos. After capturing a photo, you can
use the "Crop" function in the "Edit" Menu to cut out any
  selected part of the image.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Precautions for Use
The use of this product is subject to the following
conditions. Keep these points in mind when using the
   product.

- This scanner driver operates with Windows 95, Windows 98,
Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows Me and Windows XP.

- The BJ printer cannot perform input or output functions
while the cartridge is being changed, or immediately
after the power is switched on. Wait until the printer
completes these processes and try printing again.

- If you press the "Copy", "Capture Image", "Capture Photo"
or "Device Information" button and the message "Unable to
open scanner driver." appears, one of the following may
be the cause. Make sure the scanner equipment is set up
  normally and try again.
   1. Printer cable is not connected.
   2. Printer power is turned off.
   3. Printer port is in use for printing or other operations.
   4. Scanner cartridge is not installed properly.
   5. The top or front cover of the printer is open.

- When scanning at 360 dpi or higher, a display problem can cause the
preview image to appear striped. The actual scanned image
is not striped, however, and can be saved or printed
  without any problem.

- When editing images scanned at 360 dpi or higher, the preview image
displayed after editing may differ somewhat from the
  saved or printed image.

- When editing an image scanned at 360 dpi or higher, the image may
require a long time to print or save because the image
  data file is large.

- If you select "Copy" when no printer driver is installed,
the message "Printer driver not installed. Install a
printer driver and try again." will appear. Install the
BJ raster printer driver and try again.

- Attempting to print by pressing the "Copy" and "Reprint"
buttons alternately can cause the computer to malfunction
due to lack of memory. In this case, finish printing
  processing before reprinting.

- If you capture a binary monochrome image using the
"Capture Image" button, you cannot then use the "Apply"
button on the "Background" window in the "Edit" Menu.
To reflect "Background" processing in the Preview image,
press the "OK" button. Or, to cancel "Background"
processing after pressing the "OK" button, go to the
"Edit" Menu and press the "Undo Previous" button.

- If you use the "Crop Photo" process in the "Edit" Menu on
a photo image that you captured using the "Capture Photo"
button, you will not be able to return to the original
photo data. Use caution before trimming.

- When using the "Crop Photo" process in the "Edit" Menu
on a photo image captured using the "Capture Photo"
button, the background of the photo may not completely
deleted in some instances. To correct this, use one of
  the following processes:
   1. Correct the white level, then capture the image
again and repeat "Crop Photo" processing.
   2. In the Preview of the photo image, use trimming to
select the area you want to extract, and press
   "Crop Photo".

- After capturing a photo image using the "Capture Photo"
button, attempting to print the image using the
"Print image to fit paper size." option can rotate the
printed image 90°. The "Print image to fit paper size."
function compares the orientation of the aspect ratio of
the image and, if necessary, rotates the image to fit the
  dimensions of the paper.

- If a portion of the image is selected in the preview
display when you attempt to print or save the image with
this application, only the selected portion of the image
will be printed or saved. To print or save the entire
scanned image, click the right mouse button on the
preview to cancel the area selection, or cancel the
selection by pressing the ESC key.

- When performing operations using the Access key or Tab key,
you can use the F6 key to move the focus between the left
  and right images.
