       ALi Bus Master IDE Driver & IDE Utility Setup Utility

INTRODUCTION
------------
This setup utility installs ALi bus master IDE driver for Win95/98/NT 
and ALi IDE Utility for Win95/98.  ALi Bus Master IDE driver supports
DMA/UltraDMA features.  ALi IDE Utility facilitates end user's both 
setting up IDE driver configuration and optimizing IDE hard disk access 
performance according to user's requirements.

1. Installation Instructions
----------------------------
IDE driver:
  Run setup.exe to install ALi bus master IDE driver.  The setup utility
  detects the OS version and installs the suitable driver automatically.
  Setup program will detect M1535/M1535D and future new chip.  Microsoft 
  Windows default IDE driver is ready for these chips and it is NOT 
  necessary to install ALi driver.  You can just install the IDE utility 
  separately to optimize your IDE hard disk performance.  If you want to 
  replace your driver with other version, remember to use your original 
  or a newer install program to uninstall your original driver first. 
  Using older install program to replace or uninstall a newer driver may 
  cause problems. 
  
IDE utility:
  Run setup.exe to install ALi IDE Utility. ALi IDE Utility only supports 
  ALi M1543C, M1535, M1535D and future new chip. If your motherboard uses 
  M1533 or M1543 chip, this setup utility will not install the ALi IDE 
  Utility.

2. Uninstallation Instructions
------------------------------
Use setup utility (Windows 95/98/NT 4.0):
  Run setup.exe and select Uninstall ALi IDE Driver and IDE Utility.

Use control panel (Windows 95/98):
  1. Open "Control Panel" folder
  2. Invoke "Add/Remove Programs" icon
  3. Choose "ALi Bus Master IDE Driver" and/or "ALi IDE Utility" item 
  4. Click on "Add/Remove" button to remove drivers.

3. Attention
------------
1. When Win95 installs the software for primary and secondary 
   channels for IDE driver, please DO NOT RESTART COMPUTER after 
   Win95 just finished primary channel.  Let Win95 continue to install 
   software for secondary channel.  After secondary channel is 
   finished, then RESTART COMPUTER to let newly installed IDE drivers 
   to take effect.

2. DOS CD-ROM and IDE drivers will conflict with ALi bus master 
   driver in Win95/98.  Please remove "mscdex" command line from 
   autoexec.bat and remove the specification "device=Your DOS 
   CD-ROM and/or IDE driver" from config.sys. 

3. If some errors occur after ALi bus master driver is installed,
   the user can disable DMA feature of CD-ROM/Disk.  If the error 
   condition still exists, run setup.exe to remove ALi bus master 
   driver. 

   Procedure to disable DMA:
   - Open "System" icon from control panel.
   - Select "Device Manager" tab.
   - Open "CD-ROM" or "Disk Drive" and choose the device.
   - Double click the device and select "setting" tab.
   - Uncheck DMA check box.
   - Restart

  1. Changed cache setting to same as V3.40. V3.51's setting was reported
     slow by some end-users.
  2. Fixed idevsd.vxd page fault bug when shutdown. This only happens on
     some special memory settings.  V3.51 didn't totally correct it.
  3. V3.51's register programming for ultra66 is not totally correct.
     It is corrected in this version.

V3.50
  1. NT 4.0 part is the same as V3.40. Only Win9x part idevsd.vxd is changed.
  2. Fixed idevsd.vxd bug that causes page fault under some special memory 
     setting.

  1. Supports spin down feature for hard disk in Win98. The user can specify
     the idle time to turn off the hard disks in the power management item 
     of control panel.
  2. Solved the audio CD playing problem when digital audio CD is enabled for 
     CD-ROM device.
  3. Supports IDE S.M.A.R.T command for NT 4.0.
  4. Solved the Sony CD-RW problem with Sony CD Maker software.
  5. Optimized Winbench performance.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
