Read Me - Zoom ADSL USB 5510B/5610 Windows Setup Version 12.4
	  Windows XP and Vista

IMPORTANT NOTES

 o This setup supports Windows XP and Vista operating systems only. 

 o Windows Vista 64-bit users: You can only install this software if your DSL service provider uses PPPoE or PPPoA encapsulation. The LAN driver (for 1483 Bridged and 1483 Routed encapsulation) included with this software package is not WHQL Certified. For this reason, if you select driver type Eagle Family - LAN, the installation will not complete. 


INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE

Important! You must install the software BEFORE you physically connect the modem to your computer. Please follow the steps below.

1. Remove any previously installed versions of this software:
 a.) From the Start menu, click All Programs and then Eagle Family USB ADSL Driver.
 b.) Select Uninstall. The Eagle Family uninstall wizard launches.
 c.) Click Next and follow the on-screen prompts. (Note: You may disregard any Found New Hardware notifications.)
 d.) When the maintenance/uninstallation is complete, click Yes to restart your computer now.
 e.) When prompted, unplug the ADSL USB modem from your computer.

2. Open the USB-Eagle.12.P4 folder, which is inside the Zoom_5510B-5610_Setup124 folder, and double-click on the Setup application icon.

3. The InstallShield Wizard begins. Click Next.

4. On the following screen, select a driver type:

 o If your DSL service provider uses 1483 Bridged or 1483 Routed encapsulation, select "Eagle Family - LAN." (Note: This option is not supported in Windows Vista 64-bit.)  

 o If your DSL service provider uses PPPoE or PPPoA encapsulation, select "Eagle Family - WAN." 

Then click Next. The installation continues. 

5. This installation process may take several minutes, and the progress indicator bar will disappear.  

Windows XP users: If a digital signature dialog box appears, click Continue Anyway. This dialog box may appear more than once.

Windows Vista users: If a Windows Security dialog box appears, select "Install this driver software anyway." This dialog box may appear more than once.

6. Please wait until you see the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen. Then Select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" and click Finish.

7. Your computer will shut down and restart.

8. Windows Vista users: After your computer has restarted, click the Blocked startup programs icon in the notification area:
 a.) Select Run block program and the following program(s): 
	ADIMON
	ADI RAS setup Application
 b.) If a User Account Control warning dialog box appears, select Allow. 

9. A DSLMON Warning message box appears. Now plug the Zoom ADSL USB Modem into an available USB port on your computer and then click OK.

10. Please wait until you see a notification bubble or message box saying the installation is complete or the modem is ready to use.


CONFIGURING THE MODEM

1. Double-click on the triangular icon in the notification area. If you do not see this icon, go to Start button > All Programs > Eagle Family USB ADSL Driver> DSLMON. Note: If a User Account Control warning dialog box appears, select Allow. 

2. A USB/DSL Status window appears. Press ALT-D to open the Administrative screen.

3. Click the Config tab and enter the VPI, VCI, and Encapsulation Type settings for your DSL service provider. If you do not know these settings, please contact your provider and ask them.
	
4. Click Apply, then OK.

5. Connect the DSL line into the modem's LINE jack. Please wait until DSL Status shows OPERATIONAL (green arrow)

6. Click Close, to close the DSL Status window.

7. If your DSL service provider uses PPPoE or PPPoA encapsulation, you need to enter a Username and Password to connect to the Internet:
 a.) Double-click on the USB_ADSL icon. If you do not have this icon, restart your computer and try again.  
 b.) Enter your User name and Password, then click Dial to connect.

8. If your DSL service provider uses 1483 Bridge or 1483 Routed encapsulation, there will not be a USB-ADSL icon on your desktop and typically no additional configuration is needed.  

9. Your modem is now installed and ready to you use! If you cannot connect to the Internet, restart your computer. Otherwise, check your Internet Explorer and computer's TCP/IP settings. Refer to the sections below.  


CONFIGURING INTERNET EXPLORER

1. Double-click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop.

2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.

3. Click the Connections tab.

4. Click the LAN settings button.

5. Check that your connection is set to "Never dial a connection" or "Dial whenever a network connection is not present." Then click OK. 


VERIFYING YOUR COMPUTER'S TCP/IP SETTINGS


For Windows XP:

1. Click the Start button, point to Control Panel, and then click Network and Internet Connections.

2. Click Network Connections.

3. Right-click the Local Area Connection icon, select Properties.

4. Select your NIC card's TCP/IP entry (it should included "TCP/IP" in it. but not "AOL," "Dial-up," or "Adapter") and click the Properties button. 

5. Ensure the following is selected, depending on whether you are using dynamic (DHCP) or static IP addressing:

 o If you are using DHCP (most users): Ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically is selected and that either Obtain a DNS server address automatically or Enable DNS is selected. All fields should be blank.

 o If you are using a static IP address: Ensure that Use the following IP address and Use the following DNS server addresses are selected. The IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway, and Preferred DNS server settings should match those given to you by your Internet provider when you arranged for a static IP address.


For Windows Vista:

1. Click the Start button and point to Control Panel. 

2. Under Network and Internet, click "view network status and tasks." 
Note: If you are in Classic view, click Network and Sharing Center.

3. In the Tasks menu (left-hand column), click Manage Network Connections. 

4. Right click on Local Area Connections, and select Properties.

5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and click Properties.

 o If you are using DHCP (most users): Ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically is selected and that either Obtain a DNS server address automatically or Enable DNS is selected. All fields should be blank.

 o If you are using a static IP address: Ensure that Use the following IP address and Use the following DNS server addresses are selected. The IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway, and Preferred DNS server settings should match those given to you by your Internet provider when you arranged for a static IP address.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
