      3Com NDIS 2.01 installation notes for Artisoft LANtastic/AI


 To install LANtastic AI version 5.0 as a DOS NDIS workstation, DOS must be
 installed on the target workstation C: drive, or you must have a bootable 
 DOS floppy.  Follow these steps:

 1. Insert the LANtastic/AI Disk # 1 of 2 diskette in drive A:.

 2. Type Install /DOS for a DOS client installation.

 3. A menu will appear.  One of the menu choices allows you to choose for
    which network adapter you want the driver installed.  Pick the default
    adapter.

 4. Copy all of the files from the NDIS Support for LANtastic diskette to the
    C:\LANTASTI subdirectory created in step 3 above.

 5. Copy the ELNK3.DOS driver from the EtherDisk's \NDIS\DOS subdirectory to
    the C:\LANTASTI subdirectory.

 6. Edit CONFIG.SYS to include the following two line anywhere in the file.

        DEVICE=C:\LANTASTI\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\LANTASTI
        DEVICE=C:\LANTASTI\ELNK3.DOS

 7. In the LANTASTI subdirectory, edit STARTNET.BAT and modify the adapter
 driver.

 8. In the LANTASTI subdirectory, edit PROTOCOL.INI to include a section
 for the EtherLink III:

        [PROTMAN]
          DRIVERNAME = PROTMAN$
          DYNAMIC = YES

        [ETHERLINK3]                    <==== ADD
          DRIVERNAME = ELNK3$           <==== ADD


 9. Reboot the machine and use LANtastic as normal.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
