           3Com NDIS 2.01 driver installation notes for 3+ Open

 3Com's EtherLink III adapters are not directly installable into 3+Open
 Environments. To utilize these adapters in a 3+Open environment it is
 necessary to use 3Com's NETSETUP program and select one of the other
 listed 3Com adapters, then modify CONFIG.SYS, PROTOCOL.INI and copy the
 appropriate EtherLink III driver to the workstation or server's boot
 device. 3Com recommends you select the 3C523 adapter from NETSETUP's
 list of adapters and make the following modifications.

 (NOTE: This example is for a default 3+OPEN DOS ENHANCED WORKSTATION.
 The exact files copied and directory paths may vary depending on your
 particular installation.)

 1) Modify the CONFIG.SYS file:

    Change

          DEVICE=C:\3OPEN\DOSWKSTA\LANMAN\DRIVERS\ELNKMC.DOS
    To

          DEVICE=C:\3OPEN\DOSWKSTA\LANMAN\DRIVERS\ELNK3.DOS

 2) Use the DOS Change Directory Command, CHDIR or CD to move to the
 drivers subdirectory:

    CD C:\3OPEN\DOSWKSTA\LANMAN\DRIVERS

 3) Copy the EtherLink III NDIS, ELNK3.DOS driver from the ETHERDISK's
 \NDIS\DOS subdirectory to this directory:

    COPY A:\NDIS\DOS\ELNK3.DOS C:

 4) Modify your PROTOCOL.INI file:

    In the ADAPTERS section add the following

    [ETHERLINK3]
      DRIVERNAME = ELNK3$

    In the PROTOCOLS section

    Change all

        BINDINGS = ETHERLINK/MC

    To

        BINDINGS = ETHERLINK3
