Notes on Using the VB-C50i/VB-C50iR ---------------------------------------------------- This section explains some items that are important to note when you use the VB-C50i/VB-C50iR. The numbers in parentheses refer to the relevant pages in the manuals. 1. Settings Pages (General) (1) Actions when changing the password (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.3-3) Immediately after changing the administrator name or password, you will need to enter the new administrator name or password again. (2) Other notes on using the settings pages (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.3-4 - 3-29) The settings pages consist of forms in which the current settings are embedded. If you use the [Back] and [Forward] buttons in your browser to move between pages, inconsistencies may arise between the settings shown in the browser and the actual settings on the VB-C50i/VB-C50iR. Always conclude operations in a settings page by clicking the [OK] or [Cancel] button in the top-right corner of the page. Also, never use multiple browsers to modify settings pages as this can result in erroneous settings. 2. Networks (1) Connection modifications while using a switching hub If the VB-C50i/VB-C50iR is connected to a switching hub and the connection is switched during operation, communication using the hub's learning function may no longer be possible. Do not change connections during operation. 3. Cameras (1) Notes on setting the camera parameters (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.3-8 - 3-10) At startup, the available camera angles and visible range limitations vary depending on the Network Camera model. Refer to the manual for details. Fields left blank are assumed to be unspecified and those parameters cannot be initialized and the visible range limitations cannot be set. Also, because the visible range limitation setting takes priority over the camera setting at startup, for some visible range limitation settings it may not be possible to initialize the unit as specified. (2) If you cannot control the camera (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.3-8 - 3-10, 4-12 - 4-7) If the camera is displaying the video image correctly but you cannot control the camera, check the view restriction setting since this can prevent camera control. (3) Focus mode (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P. 3-8) If you shoot video under conditions that are not suitable for auto focusing such as low contrast subjects and night views, we recommend that you set the focus mode to "fixed at infinity". 4. Picture Recording and External Device I/O (1) Picture Recording Settings When setting up picture recording, it is necessary to use the VB Administration Tools. Note that you cannot configure picture recording and use schedule setting features from the built-in setting pages of the VB-C50i/VB-C50iR. (2) Picture Recording Function (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P. 4-38 - P. 4-58) The VB-C50i/VB-C50iR records video images into volatile memory. These images are erased when the VB-C50i/VB-C50iR is turned off or it is rebooted. In addition, the VB-C50i/VB-C50iR does not write video images over existing images. Once the available memory for recorded images becomes full, recording stops. Use the supplied VBCollector to retrieve (or delete) recorded images. To delete all recorded images, use the Delete button on the Administration Tools of the settings page. (3) Pre-event picture recording using external device input (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.4-54, P.4-58) When pictures are recorded using an external device, pictures can be recorded that were shot prior to a change in the status of the external device. However, the camera and the camera angles used to take the shots before and after the event are normally different. If you want to ensure that the same camera and camera angle are used both before and after the event, you must take measures such as specifying the camera settings so as to prohibit camera control by users or so that the camera control functions themselves cannot be used. (4) E-mailing recorded pictures using external device input (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.4-59) To e-mail pictures recorded using input from an external device, you must specify the settings for picture recording using the external device. You cannot simply e-mail the recorded pictures. Note that pictures are still e-mailed even when they cannot be recorded because there is no memory to record pictures. A single picture is attached per e-mail. (5) Picture recording priority when external device input is used (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.4-54, P.4-55) The "Recording at ON event" and "Recording at OFF event" settings record pictures for a short period before and after a status change in the external device. Use the appropriate setting for the external device input characteristics and the desired goal. The priorities for camera position specification are as follows: - Picture recording for ON/OFF events in external device 1 (In1) - Picture recording for ON/OFF events in external device 2 (In2) (6) Using external device input, timer and motion detection in conjunction (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.4-34) You can set up picture recording so that it will be triggered by more than one factor, but if multiple factors trigger recording simultaneously, pictures are recorded according to priority. The priorities are as shown below. - (a) Picture recording for an ON/OFF event on external device 1 or 2 - (b) Picture recording using timer - (c) Picture recording using motion detection Particularly when you use the timer and motion detection together, preset specified by the motion detection will be used instead of the preset of timer. (7) External device output states (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.4-56, P.4-57) Output to external devices is controlled by external device input, motion detection and Admin Viewer. The output status is ON when it is set to ON by one of these sources and changes to OFF when output control ends for any reason. (8) Motion Detection Setting Tool (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.4-41 - P.4-51) While the "Display motion detection status of the server" checkbox is ticked, no pictures are recorded and no data is output to the log or to external devices when a "Motion detected" state occurs. However, the motion detection results are posted to the Admin Viewer. (9) Night Mode (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.4-52, 4-53) If you check the "Enable Slow Shutter", the exposure is switched to manual and the aperture and gain is set to the maximum value. It will not allow you to use appropriate exposure if subject illumination is strong. 5. Notice when using Internet Explorer 6 (1) URL format If you apply the Security Patch Q832894 provided by Microsoft Corporation, you will not be able to have access using the URL format "http://user name:password@IP address/". Similarly, access using "ftp://user name:password@IP address/" is not available. When you use FTP with Internet Explorer, be sure to access with the URL format "ftp://user name@IP address/". 6. Miscellaneous (1) External Device Names (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.3-27) If you use "&" for external device names, the registered external device names will not be displayed properly with the MV Stations. (2) Multilingual support on Web pages (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.5-2, P.5-3) A slash (/) at the end of a URL can be replaced by a directory index and you can configure the index page so that the selected page is in the correct language for the browser language settings. For example, if both English and Japanese index pages are provided, create files with the following names: - English index page: index.html - Japanese index page: index-ja.html Normally, if files are created with names in the "index-XX.html" format, the "index-XX.html" index page is selected and displayed when the language "XX" is specified. Refer to the browser language settings for information on the "XX" tags. (Note: Only the first 2 characters of the language code are read. For example, no distinction is made between "en-GB" (for English/British) and "en-US" (for English/American). When 2 or more languages are specified, only the language specified first is used to determine the index page. All other languages are ignored.) ---------------------------------------------------- 4. Notes on Using the Viewer ---------------------------------------------------- (1) Video images viewed on a viewer, even when saved or printed, may only be used for personal enjoyment. (2) When you are using the Viewer for Java to view video on Netscape Navigator, the browser restarts the Java applet when you resize the browser window. This cuts and then re-establishes the connection to the camera server so that the video is paused until the server is reconnected. (3) The camera control provided when you click in the viewer window is not particularly precise. (4) When images are captured using the Viewer for Java Snapshot button, there may a slight delay between the time the button is clicked and the time the image is captured. (5) You can specify that the Viewer for Java Capture button be hidden. Add the following line of code to the Viewer for Java page: <PARAM NAME = show_capture VALUE = "off"> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Usage Notes for the Network Video Recorder VK-64 v1.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The following is usage notes when using the Network Video Recorder VK-64 v1.1 (hereinafter referred to as VK-64). (1) When you configure recording schedule with a preset position specified on the VK-64, be sure to clear the checkbox "Return to Home Position when nobody has a control privilege" on the Camera and Video setting page. If you carry out recording with the checkbox ticked, the camera may shoot video with the home position, instead of the specified preset position. (VB-C50i/VB-C50iR User's Manual P.3-8) (2) When you set the "Auto Preset Tour" to "For Viewers" on the VB-C50i/ VB-C50iR, preset tour may operate, even if the VK-64 does not perform recording. The preset tour may be carried out about a minute or so, even if you remove the VB-C50i/VB-C50iR from the VK-64. (3) IR light is not available even if you select gEnabled, IR light onh from the Night mode in the Video Window menu. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Usage Notes for the WebView Livescope MV Ver. 2.1 / LE ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The following is usage notes when using the WebView Livescope MV Ver. 2.1 / LE (hereinafter referred to as MV).
