I.   Introduction

This readme file will guide you on successfully using a self-extractable set of files to Update your printer and personality card firmware.

The HP Printer Firmware Update Utility v1.1 can be used to update firmware on both locally and remotely connected (locally shared, JetDirect, LPR or Standard TCP/IP) printers.

Prior to attempting a firmware upgrade, please verify your firmware version by using the following buttons on the Control Panel to print a configuration page:
	
	1. Use the MENU button to obtain the INFORMATION MENU
	2. Use the ITEM button to obtain the PRINT CONFIGURATION item
	3. Press the RESUME button

- NOTE - In the Printer Information section of the configuration page you will find the Base Firmware version listed as <Firmware> and the Personality Firmware version listed as <Personality Version>

II.  How to Flash Your Printer:

a.  hp business inkjet 2200 
	1. Make sure you have the following self extractable file:
           - bi127.exe (used for flashing the base firmware)
	2. follow Steps 1-8 in Section III below

b.  hp business inkjet 2250, hp business inkjet 2250tn OR hp business inkjet 2200 with a personality card (HP Postscript/PCL5 Kit - C5935A)
	1. Make sure you have the following self extractable files:
	    - bi127.exe (used for flashing the base firmware)
	    - bi128.exe (used for flashing the personality card firmware)
	2. Follow Steps 1-8 in Section III below
	3. Follow Steps 1-8 in Section IV below

-WARNING!- It is critical that you complete Step 2 above to flash your base firmware BEFORE attempting to flash the firmware on your personality card (Step 3 above).  In addition, while your printer continues to contain a combination of new base firmware and old personality card firmware below version 6.4.0, it will remain UNUSABLE, therefore you should make sure that both steps 2 & 3 above are completed in a single session. 

- NOTE - Use http://www.hp.com//support/businessinkjet to downloaded any components described above.

III. Updating Base Firmware.

1. Navigate to the directory containing the file bi127.exe.
2. Double click on the application named "fwupdate.exe", to open the HP Printer Firmware Update Utility.
3. In the <ports> column of the utility window, you will see a selection of available ports and their attached printers. (e.g. LPT1: Local Port)
4. Use the checkboxes on the extreme left to select the ports connected to the printer/printers which you wish to upgrade. 
5. - NOTE - you may select multiple ports at one time.
6. Click the Go button.  
7. The update process should take approximately 5 minutes, and the following messages should appear on the control panel during this time.

	- <DNLD Formatter> followed by a series of ***
	- <VRFY Formatter> followed by a series of ***
	- <PRGM Formatter> followed by a series of ***
  
- WARNING! - Severe printer damage may result if the printer is interrupted during the firmware update process.
8. Your printer is ready for normal use, once the LCD panel reads <READY>.

IV.  Updating Personality Card Firmware.

1. Navigate to the directory containing the file bi128.exe.
2. Double click on the application named "fwupdate.exe", to open the HP Printer Firmware Update Utility.
3. In the <ports> column of the utility window, you will see a selection of available ports and their attached printers. (e.g. LPT1: Local Port)
4. Use the checkboxes on the extreme left to select the ports connected to the printer/printers which you wish to upgrade.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
