Before you install Media Information File

  Please be sure you have upgraded the printer firmware for W8400 or W6400
  to version 2.0 or later. You may upgrade the firmware using Firmware
  Upgrade Tool downloadable from http://www.usa.canon.com/imageprograf
  or by obtaining the file by calling 1-800-423-2366 (M-F, 8:00AM-8:00PM EST).

1. Introduction for Media Information File -------------------------------------

  The Media Information File is a support-kit for adding the extra Media Types 
  to the default Media Types used in Canon imagePROGRAF W6400/W8400 printers. 
  Updating the Media Types information of the printer, the printer driver and 
  related software with this file makes the additional Media Types usable for 
  printing. 


2. About Added Media Types -----------------------------------------------------

3. How to Update the Media Types -----------------------------------------------

  Refer to Media Configuration Tool Guide for details.

  1) Save the Media Information File downloaded to a folder.
  2) Start Media Configuration Tool.
  3) Click the Update Media Types button.
  4) Specify the Media Information File (.med) saved in Step 1.
  5) Follow the steps displayed in the Update Media Types wizard.


4. Precautions -----------------------------------------------------------------

  - Follow all the precautions of Media Configuration Tool and listed below.

  - Before updating the Media Types, close all application software and the 
    printer driver.

  - Do not print any documents or switch off the printer until the update of 
    the Media Types is completed.

  - When updating the Media Types of the printer is completed, the printer 
    automatically restarts. Make sure that the printer is online again before 
    printing, operating the panel or using the printer driver and related 
    software.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
