===== Application Notes =====
1. Printing
1.1. Print Job Settings
The MF Drivers provide you to set various printer settings.
Refer to the following procedures when performing printer settings.
To perform printer settings from the Printers window:
You can change the printer settings from the Printers window.
The settings you changed will remain until you change them again.
1) On the desktop, click "start," then click "Printers and Faxes"
(in Windows 2000, click "Printers" in "Settings").
2) Right-click the icon of the printer and select "Printing
Preferences" from the pop-up menu.
3) Change the printer settings as you like.
4) When you are finished, click "OK."
To perform printer settings from the software application:
The settings using the following procedure are valid until the
software application is closed.
1) In the software application, start the print job. (For example,
from the "File" menu select "Print.")
2) In the Print dialog box, select the name of the printer to use,
then click "Properties."
3) Change the printer settings as you like.
4) When you are finished, click "OK."
Displaying the On-line Help
Refer to the Help file for details on how to perform the settings.
When you click the "?" mark in the upper right hand corner of a
dialog box, and then click an item, an explanation of that item
appears. When you click "Help," information about the printer
driver appears.
1.2. Cautions, Limitations, and Restrictions
Note the following limitations when using the driver or printing a
document.
o When you print with a watermark, a part of the document where the
image and the watermark are overlapped may not be printed
clearly. If you set "Print Style" to "Transparent," you should
set a dark color for the "Color."
o If the printing takes long time to process, printing may not be
performed normally.
In that case, set the ERROR TIME OUT settings in the Menu to OFF,
and try the print job again.
o When printing from Microsoft Visio Professional 2003, the printed
image will not be reduced to fit the specified paper size even if
you set "Page Size" to "A3" and "Output Size" to "A4" in "File"
-> "Print" -> "Properties."
To work around this limitation, perform the following:
1) On the desktop, click "start," then click "Printers and Faxes"
(in Windows 2000, click "Printers" in "Settings").
2) Right-click the "Canon MF8180" icon and select "Printing
Preferences" from the pop-up menu.
3) Set "Page Size" to "A3" and "Output Size" to "A4," then click
"OK."
4) Print the document from Microsoft Visio Professional 2003.
2. Scanning
o Make sure that you have adequate disk space available when
scanning large documents at high resolutions. For instance,
scanning a full page color document at 600 dpi requires a minimum
of 300MB of free disk space.
o Only run one application at a time that is actively linked to
ScanGear. Do not open more than one application that is actively
linked to ScanGear. Also, do not open ScanGear more than once to
acquire an image in the same application.
o When scanning large images at high resolutions, the progress bar
may stop at 0% or your computer may stop responding, depending on
the size of the file and the limitations of the applications being
used. If this happens, cancel the action (for example by clicking
the progress bar's cancel button), and then increase the virtual
memory available and perform the scan again. Selecting smaller
area at lower resolutions may also resolve the problem.
Also, you can scan the image from the Toolbox and import the
resulting file into your application.
o The TWAIN data source may not open correctly from time to time
when the system file is in the NTFS format. For security reasons,
the TWAIN module cannot be written to the "winnt" directory.
For details, contact your system administrator.
o Always close the ScanGear main window before you exit the parent
application program.
o You may not be able to use the [B&W Start] key or [Color Start]
key on the machine after you install the MF drivers.
In this case, restart your computer.
o When you preview or scan an image with a relatively uniform
background, the Auto Tone function may change its coloring.
If this occurs, reset the Auto Tone.
o Some applications may close ScanGear automatically after scanning.
o Some application programs may hide the TWAIN user interface.
In this case, refer to the application programmer's manual to find
out the required setting changes to show the TWAIN user interface.
o When scanning full page images into a Microsoft Office application
(such as Word, PowerPoint or Excel), it is recommended that you
use the Custom Insert command in the Insert Picture from Scanner
or Camera dialog box. The image may otherwise not be scanned
correctly.
o Some applications, such as Microsoft Word 2000, Excel 2000 and
PowerPoint 2000, will not allow scanning of multi-page documents.
These applications will only accept the first page scanned.
In this case, please scan each page individually.
o Images imported from Corel WordPerfect 10 may not be imported
correctly. If this happens, increase the virtual memory available
and scan the image again. This should solve the problem.
o Images will not be properly imported to Lotus Word Pro when
WIA Canon MF8180 is selected as the scanner and documents are
scanned from the document feeder. Scan documents from the flatbed
to solve this problem.
o Some applications supporting for PC Scanning might be unable to scan
documents continuously by using the ADF. In this case, please scan
documents by using the Platen Glass.
3. Faxing
o When you click "Cancel" in the "Fax Sending Settings" dialog box
in sending a fax from your computer, a message may appear or "Fax
Sending Settings" dialog box may appear again depending on
applications. Close the message or the dialog box and then perform
the operation from the beginning if you want to continue sending
the fax.
o If double quotation marks or CSV separators are included in any of
the items (Such as name and fax numbers) stored in a CSV file,
the addresses stored in the file may not be imported to the address
book correctly.
o If double quotation marks are included in any of the items (Such as
names and fax numbers) stored in an ABK file (*.abk), the addresses
stored in the file may not be imported to the address book correctly.
o Do not specify more than 1 for the Copies option in the application
since the fax may be sent more than once in some applications when
the Copies option is specified in the application.
Displaying the On-line Help
Refer to the Help file for details on how to perform the settings.
When you click the "?" mark in the upper right hand corner of a
dialog box, and then click an item, an explanation of that item
appears. When you click "Help," information about the fax driver
appears.
