Please review this before using this software. ========================== Software License Agreement ========================== Before using this software, please be sure to review the Software License Agreement (License.txt), located in the same folder as this readme file. =================================== Overview of Device Status Extension =================================== When you share printers on Windows XP, you can view information about shared printers and manage print jobs using your Web browser. After installing Device Status Extension in Windows XP, the information screens for the printers supported by Device Status Extension are replaced by the screens provided by Canon Inc. If you are using NetSpot Console, Device Status Extension allows you to run NetSpot Console via the Device Status Extension screen, and to configure the printers. =================== System Requirements =================== Device Status Extension has been confirmed to work in the following system environments. For the computer which has Device Status Extension installed into it: - OS Microsoft Windows XP Professional - Web Server Microsoft Internet Information Server(IIS) 5.1 or higher - Computer IBM PC or compatible For other computers used to view device information and manage jobs: - Web Browser Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01SP1 or higher Netscape Communicator/Navigator 4.08 or higher Conditions for the device used to display information from the web browser: - Printer Port Standard TCP/IP Port - SNMP status Enabled To confirm the above settings, refer to Important Release Notes - General Notes - (2) - Printer settings confirmation procedure in this Readme file. * Only TCP/IP is available for communication between the web server and devices. ============================= Using Device Status Extension ============================= 1. Installing Device Status Extension Device Status Extension is installed into a computer that is sharing printers with other computers (print server). It does not need to be installed into any other computer. With that computer, run SETUP.EXE. * Before installing the software, log on to Windows XP as a member of Administrators. 2. Starting Device Status Extension When you are sharing printers on Windows XP, you can view information about shared printers, and manage print jobs from all computers that can communicate using the HTTP protocol with the following procedure. 1. Start your web browser. 2. Enter the URL below into Address or Location. http://<host name of the print server>/printers/ After installing Device Status Extension, the information screens for the printers supported by Device Status Extension are replaced by the screens provided with Canon Inc. 3. Using Device Status Extension When you enter the URL in the web browser, the shared printer list is displayed. (If the printer you want to manage is not displayed, refer to "Important Release Notes".) When you click the printer name, the VIEW menu and PRINTER ACTIONS menu are displayed on the left. The VIEW menu has the following items: Document List: Displays the list of print jobs currently being processed by the printer. To control print jobs, select a print job, and then click the appropriate item on the PRINTER ACTIONS menu on left. Properties: Displays information about the printer. Device Status: Displays current status (error information, remaining paper, etc). All Printers: Returns to the shared printer list. If you are using NetSpot Console, follow the procedure below to register the NetSpot Console URL. (If you are using a Web browser other than Windows Internet Explorer, refer to "Important Release Notes" to configure the IIS security settings.) 1. Click the Device Status on the left menu. 2. Click About... on upper right. If the page does not display properly in Internet Explorer on Windows Server 2003, please change the security settings as follows. In the Internet Explorer [Tools] menu, select [Internet Options]. On the [Security] sheet, perform one of the following: - Click the zone to which the Device Status Extension web site belongs ([Internet] or [Local intranet]), and set the security level to [Medium] or lower. - Click [Trusted sites] and set the security level to [Medium] or lower (the default level is [Medium]). Then click the [Sites] button, and add the URL for the Device Status Extension to the Trusted sites zone. 3. Click the Register URL button. 4. Input the NetSpot Console URL in Canon NetSpot Console URL, and then click the OK button. After registering the NetSpot Console URL, you can run NetSpot Console by clicking the NetSpot Console logo displayed below the device status page, and then configure the printer using NetSpot Console. ======================= Important Release Notes ======================= 1. General Notes (1) When setting the URL for NetSpot Console from a Web browser other than Windows Internet Explorer, please change the IIS security setting using the following procedure: 1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel, and then select Performance and Maintenance - Administrative Tools - Internet Information Services. 2. In the left tree, select Default Web Site in the print server. 3. On the right directory list, right-click the Printers folder, and then select Properties. 4. Click the Directory Security tab, and then click the Edit... button in Anonymous access and authentication control. 5. Check Basic authentication, and then click the OK button. (To register the NetSpot Console URL, it is necessary to log on as a member of Administrators, therefore check Basic authentication.) (2) If the printer you want to use to view information and manage jobs is not displayed on the shared printer list, make sure of the printer and IIS settings with the following procedure. Printer settings confirmation procedure 1. On the print server, from the Start menu, select Printers and Faxes. 2. Right-click the printer icon, and then from the pop up menu, select Properties. 3. Click the Sharing tab, and then confirm that Share this printer is selected. (To manage the printers that are not shared, use a different software such as NetSpot Console.) 4. Click the Ports tab, and then confirm that the Description of the checked port is Standard TCP/IP Port. (To manage the printers using other ports, use a different software such as NetSpot.) 5. Click the Configure Port... button, and then confirm that SNMP Status Enabled is checked on. IIS settings confirmation procedure 1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel, and then select Performance and Maintenance - Administrative Tools - Internet Information Services. 2. In the left tree, select the print server name. 3. On the right, confirm that the Default Web Site is running. If it is not running, right-click Default Web Site, and then select Start. (3) If you are not logging on to the computer as a member of Administrators, you cannot register the NetSpot Console URL. In this case, it is necessary to log on again as a member of Administrators. 2. Note for Macintosh Users (1) If you register the NetSpot Console URL using Macintosh, you can occasionally enter more than 64 characters for the URL. However, if you enter more than 64 characters, Device Status Extension may not run normally. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
