1. Features

o ScanGear (TWAIN) driver for Microfilm Scanner 400/500 V1.0 (hereafter referred 
  to ScanGear MS400/500) is a 32-bitTWAIN-compliant scanner driver for Microfilm 
  Scanner 400/500. You can select ScanGear MS400/500 from within a TWAIN compliant 
  software application to scan originals.
o ScanGear Utility for Microfilm Scanner 400/500 V1.0 (hereafter referred to 
  ScanGear Utility for MS400/500) is a scanner utility for Microfilm Scanner 400/500. 
  You can run this utility independently to scan originals and save the scanned 
  images to files if you do not have a TWAIN-compliant software application. This 
  utility also allows thumbnail display of scanned pages, real time scanning 
  display, displaying scanned pages at actual size, printing and so on.  
  
2. What You Need

Required Hardware

o IBM PC/AT or compatible computer
o 100 MB of free disk space (more recommended)
  The amount of space required depends on the scanning area and the Mode
  or Resolution setting.  (Images scanned at higher resolution require more 
  storage space.)
o 16 MB of memory (32 MB or more recommended) for Windows 95, Windows 98
o 32 MB of memory (48 MB or more recommended) for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000
o Monitor of capable of at least 640 x 480 dots (800 x 600 dots recommended) 
  resolution which can  display 256 colors or more
o ASPI-compliant SCSI host adapter card (Adaptec recommended)
  The following cards are specifically recommended:
  -  Adaptec AHA-2940AU
o Canon Microfilm Scanner 400 or Microfilm Scanner 500

Required Software

o One of the following systems is required:
  Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows NT Version 
  4.0(Service Pack 3 or later), Microsoft Windows 2000
o TWAIN-compliant application software


3. Some General Tips on Usage

o Run only one application at a time which uses ScanGear MS400/500; do not 
  open more than one application that uses the ScanGear MS400/500 scanner driver.  
  Also, do not open ScanGear MS400/500 more than once to acquire an image in the 
  same application.

o If you scan a very large image at high resolution, some applications may 
  determine that there is not enough disk space to scan and save the image 
  and return an error. 

o Always close the ScanGear MS400/500 main window before you exit the parent 
  application program.
  
o With some applications the ScanGear MS400/500 main window may cover the messages 
  displayed by the parent application program in the background and it may 
  appear that scanning or acquisition by the parent application program has 
  been interrupted. In this case, click the parent application program window
  to bring to the foreground.
  
o When you use the NTFS file formatted drive in Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000, 
  ScanGear Utility for MS400/500 experiences the following limitation.
  If you log in as a User and create a folder which includes a file that you 
  have no right to access, the file is deleted when you try to save it.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
