LOGIC CONTROLS PD3000U USB POLE DISPLAY VIRTUAL COM PORT DRIVER

for Windows 2000 and XP

This zip file contains Windows 2000/XP virtual COM port USB 
driver for Logic Controls PD3000 series USB Pole Display.  

This is a virtual COM port driver.  After installation, the
USB pole display appears to be connected to a serial COM port
in the syatem.  Follow the following installation instructions 
to install the driver.

If the model is an OPOS display (PD3900U), you have to install 
both USB drivers and OPOS drivers to work with the pole display.  
In this case, install the USB driver first before installing 
OPOS drivers.


DRIVER INSTALLATION
-------------------

When hardware is installed correctly, Windows will detect the 
USB pole display and start device driver installation.  Follow 
instructions on screen to install the driver. 


Installing Virtual COM Port Device Drivers:
-------------------------------------------

1. When Windows tried to search for a driver, click on the check 
   box “Specify a location“ and click [Next].  Enter the folder 
   name where the unzipped driver files are saved as the location 
   and click [Next].

2. Select driver "PD3COM.inf” and click [Next].

3. When finished installing, click [Finish].

4. Go to "Device Manager" to check that the pole display has been 
   installed correctly under "Ports (COM & LPT)" section and note 
   down the COM Port number used for the pole display.  To go to
   "Device Manager", place cursor on "My Computer", click on the
   right mouse button, then left-click "Properties".  Click on the
   "Hardware" tab, then "Device Manager" button.  Double click 
   on the line "Port (COM&LPT)" to check the display's port.


OPOS DRIVER INSTALLATION (OPOS models only)
-------------------------------------------

If you do not have the Logic Controls OPOS display driver, please
download from our web site.

1.   The Logic Controls OPOS display drivers are contained in a zip 
     file.  Unzip the files into a harddisk folder and open the folder.

2.   Click on file <setup.exe> to start installation and follow 
     instructions on the screen to go through installation.

3.   After installation, you have to setup the OPOS driver by running 
     PDSetup.exe. Start <PDSetup> under Start Menu -> Programs -> 
     PDOPOS Setup.  The left part of the dialog window is for setting
     up OPOS and the right part is for testing commands sent to the 
     OPOS display.

4.   Select appropriate port and then setup LDN (Logic Device Name).  
     Click Add new LDN. A new form will be displayed, name a new LDN.  
     For example: “PD3900”, then click OK.

5.   To rename an LDN or delete an LDN, click Rename LDN or Delete LDN.

6.   To test the pole display, follow the order of buttons.  First 
     click "Open", then "Claim", then "Enable Device".  Now the pole 
     display is ready to display messages.

7.   Click on "DisplayText", a string is displayed on the pole display.  
     Test other functions to verify operations.

8.   Click on "Release" and then "Close".  Click on "Exit" to quit the 
     program.  The OPOS driver has been setup and ready to run OPOS 
     application software.

9.   The LDN in the application software and the pole display setup 
     has to match in order for the software to work with the pole 
     display. Setup the POS application software to operate with 
     the Logic Controls pole display by entering the LDN that have 
     been set in step 4 and 5 above.

10.  If you have any problems with the drivers after installation, 
     check with the <readme.doc> file which should be in the directory 
     you have installed the 0POS drivers.




ACCESSING USB POLE DISPLAY FROM NON-OPOS APPLICATION SOFTWARE
-------------------------------------------------------------

For Non-OPOS application, the application software has to control pole
display operation accordingly through the USB device port.

As virtual COM port driver was installed, the application software 
can simply use the port name "COMx" (for instance, COM4) to access the 
pole display.  Set up the POS software to work with the COM port name
indicated under device manager.

The pole display is controlled by command codes and data from the PC. 
Refer to the Command Set PDF file document or User Manual for details.  
In setting up the POS software, make sure that correct pole display type
is selected.
